         <description><![CDATA[<div><em>A mineral is homogenous, naturally occurring substance formed through geological processes that has a characteristic chemical composition, a highly ordered atomic structure and specific physical properties.<br></em><br><strong><mark>What are Rocks? </mark></strong><br><em>A rock is a naturally occurring aggregate of minerals and/or other rock fragments. It is categorized by the minerals included, its chemical composition and the way in which it is formed. <br><br></em><strong><mark>What are 3 major types of rocks? </mark></strong><em><br></em><strong>Igneous</strong> – <em>formed from molten magma</em> </div><div><strong>Sedimentary </strong>– <em>formed from sediment (soil, sand)</em></div><div><strong>Metamorphic</strong> – <em>formed by applying heat and pressure to other existing rocks</em><br><br><strong><mark>What does the texture of rocks refer to? </mark></strong><br><em>Texture refers to the physical appearance or character of a rock, such as grain size, shape, and arrangement.</em> <br><strong>Ex:</strong> <em>Igneous rocks that crystallize slowly beneath the Earth's surface, typically have visible individual minerals. Extrusive igneous rocks tend to cool much more rapidly, and the minerals grow quicker and can not get as large. Thus, they have a sugary or fine grained texture.<br></em><br><br></div><div><br><br><br><br><br><br></div>]]></description>
