According to the Youth Law Team, a delinquent act can be classified into two categories: status offenses and acts that would be considered criminal if committed by an adult.

In general, all status offenses are taken to a juvenile court where the judge determines if it is necessary to send a juvenile to a detention center. However, all acts committed by a minor that is 16 or older, that would be considered illegal if committed by an adult are taken to an 'adult court.'

For the most part, these are up to the judges discretion.

The case, known as "The Slender Man Stabbing," took place in Waukesha, Wisconsin. At the time, all of the girls involved in the case were 12 years old. Morgan Geyser and Anissa Weier lured fellow classmate Payton Leutner into the woods with the promise of meeting Slender Man where they stabbed Leutner 19 times. The girls believed that providing a sacrifice to Slender Man would appease him and keep him from harming them and their families. After the stabbing, they left Leutner to die. However, she managed to crawl out of the woods and received help from a person riding their bike.

Then it should be taken into account that that the child's brain has yet to fully develop. After careful consideration, the court should then proceed with what they determine to be the best method.

Do you agree or disagree about the current rules and regulations regarding this topic in the state of Indiana?

I don't believe that children should be able to face life sentences in Indiana for the crimes the commit. Why or why not?
I don't think the girls should've been able to get off with just having to serve time in mental health institutions. In my opinion, they should also receive intense therapy.

What aspects of the case were handled well? What could have happened differently?
They people in the court took in all of the information without much, if any bias, however, I don't believe they took into account the severity of the stabbings and the intent behind it.
