The drug I chose to research is MDMA or Molly. MDMA is synthesized using MDP2P as a precursor. It is a synthetic drug that acts as a stimulant and a hallucinogen. This means that it produces an energizing effect, and distortions in time and perception, and it enhances enjoyment from sensory experiences. It can also increase one’s self-awareness and empathy. Some people may experience the intoxicating effects of this drug within 45 minutes after taking a single dose. These effects include increased extroversion and emotional warmth. MDMA can also cause several acute adverse health effects. Fatal overdoses on MDMA are rare, but they can potentially be life-threatening, with symptoms like high blood pressure, panic attacks, and faintness. In more serious cases, these could be a loss of consciousness and seizures. According to AP News, the psychedelic drug, MDMA can ease PTSD symptoms when combined with talk therapy in a study that paves the way for possible legalization. In the year 2023, Australia became the first country to allow psychiatrists to prescribe MDMA. Researchers measured symptoms in 104 people with PTSD who were randomly assigned to MDMA or a dummy pull. After treatment, 86% of the MDMA group improved on a standard PTSD assessment compared to 69% of the placebo group. Among people aged 12 or older in 2021, 2.2 million people reported using MDMA in the past 12 months. MDMA is a very popular synthetic drug in the rave and nightclub scene. In the year 2021, 67 people died from MDMA or Molly.

https://nida.nih.gov/publications/research-reports/mdma-ecstasy-abuse/what-are-effects-mdma

https://nida.nih.gov/publications/research-reports/mdma-ecstasy-abuse/what-are-effects-mdma

https://www.drugwise.org.uk/how-many-people-have-died-from-ecstasy/
