Getting to Know a CEO

Here are links to several interviews of CEOs conducted by Adam Bryant and published in The New York Times. I'd like you to skim over several of them and find one that interests you. Then read it carefully. Look up words you don't know. Keep an eye out for idiomatic language and see if you can figure it out. Try to understand the CEO's management style. Do you like it? Do you have any reservations? Take notes.

Be ready to explain your CEO's background and management style to your partners in class. While you can refer to your notes, you can't read them You have to talk to your partners.

1) The CEO who started as a programming prodigy.

2) The CEO who says he won't manage you.

3) The CEO who sees a connection between cold weather and hard work.

Etc.

(I could add links to a dozen or more interviews.)

Sometimes when you're reading and you come across a word you don't know, you just want to get a quick idea of what it means. At such times, you can go straight to your translator.

Sometimes, though, you want to know more about a word. For that, I recommend the Merriam-Webster online dictionary. You'll find detailed definitions, lots of examples, and information about the origins of English words. You can also hear how words are pronounced, and play words games too.
