She deserves her slow fade." However, this really only ends up with the placement of Klara in "the Yard" were she is left to be alone in her final years. From an external view I felt as if this was a major disappointment. This event is neutral, as while Klara's first meeting with Rick, she still goes outside for the first time in her life and is fascinated with the outside world. It also introduces the theme of robots replacing humans- in this case,  Rick is afraid Klara would replace Rick. Klara doesn't like the behavior of these AFs, seeing them as incapable as being good AFs and this does affect her opinion of not only the B3s but in part Klara themselves. The next day, Klara noticed that the two recovered, and associates this recovery with the nourishment from the Sun.
"The Sun was pouring his nourishment onto the street and into the buildings, and when I looked over to the spot where Beggar Man and the dog had died, I saw they weren't dead at all - that a special kind of nourishment from the Sun had saved them."- Klara
Initially the experience was negative, since she didn't see anyone stop to help the man and was sad he and his dog looked ill, but then it was positive since she witnessed the man and his dog revive the next day, claiming this to be intervention from the Sun's nutrients. Specific to Klara, the experience shows more development of character, as she not only feels sad for the Man and his dog, but now sees the Sun as capable of healing humans as well. The whole idea carried throughout Klara's life is with servitude comes the feeling of love or at least care. However with her final placement in "the Yard" Klara is left alone even though her life has always been at the side of someone. It is ironic and surprising considering the lengths she was willing to go for Josie's family. Furthermore, the book comes full circle with Klara ending up with other AFs and no owner, like she was in the store before being bought. 

A text to text connection to Klara and the Sun is When Robot and Crow Saved East St. Louis. In both the text there is the usage of AFs or robots to give care. In Klara and the Sun the AFs are used to provide companionship and in When Robot and Crow Saved East St. Louis the care comes from robots who provide vaccines. Although the vessel of care is very different in the story it shows how humans rely on help from something impersonal rather than each other.

The kids then ask Josie why she bought a B2. " Josie laughed and said: Maybe I should have [gotten a B3]"(78) Klara then gets rescued by Rick, who drags her out of the room.

This event disheartens Klara, as she freezes up and is unable to prove her worth to the other kids and gets talked down to. Also, Klara sees that Josie does not keep all of her promises. It also introduces the concept of lifted and non-lifted kids. It also validates Rick's fears that Josie will "change", as Josie does succumb to the peer pressure of the other lifted kids.  The theme of the fear of being replaced is present here as well, as Klara is afraid that she will be replaced by a B3. In the end, Klara agrees to go because she could figure out how to help Josie out, stating "... This event hints at the severity of Josie's illness, as well as the tension it causes between Josie and her Mother. It also brings up the fact that Josie lies and changes her mind often. It also brings up the question of Klara's humanity, as Mother is bring Klara to the falls as if she were her own daughter. Then, the Sun begins to fade as Klara begged while facing the light. This interaction shows that Klara deeply cares for Josie, even though it is her job as an AF to take care of children. Despite her failure to protect Josie, Klara still asked for the Sun's kindness to Josie. This event is important because it shows yet again that Klara will do anything for Josie, as she even raises her voice to Mother to notify her of the Sun, which usually she would never do. The event finally voices Mother's frustration over Josie's situation. For the second time in the book, Mother asks Klara to imitate Josie, yet again putting into question Klara's humanity, and foreshadows the true purpose of Klara. It also shows that Mother is a hypocrite as well, and does not want Josie to know about Klara imitating her, even though she hates it when Josie hides things from her. At the end, a shift in Josie and Klara's relationship occurs, as some sort of rift forms in between them. This event hints at the tragic part of Klara's character arc. She's trying so hard to help everyone but refuses to stop and look at herself or get help like with the ditch or not letting Rick in on the "deal" she made with the sun. For Part 2, the most important part is Event 4. It foreshadows Klara's true purpose as a possible replacement for Josie if she dies. It also highlights the difference between Artificial Intelligence and humans.
