She is the pinnacle of what a Heliarch should strive for, and they believe that it is her who must succeed the throne amongst her siblings. She is beloved massively by the Solkarathi, due to her incredible control over her powers and her evident love for her people. There are many common folk who are devoted to serving her.

She is also quite favored by the elite and foreign monarchs as well. It is almost a guaranteed deal whenever she is involved.

The eldest daughter of the House of Eternal Embers is nothing less than perfect. This was written in the stars, they'd say, for a flareveil appeared on her 18th birthday, during the eve of her ritual flame binding.

Perfect in her upbringing. Perfect in her training. Perfect in her poise. Everything that one might see in a noble she embodies completely. She is one of the brightest igniscrafters in her generation, a fiery power with a kinder heart. Even amongst the nobility, she is well-connected and stands out. It is said that having her as a guest to one's party will elevate their influence one way or another in the political hemisphere.

It is not a question that she is genuine. Her kind heart is often mentioned when people talk about her. There is barely any separation between her image as the daughter of Aurelthane and as an individual, as she pours her heart into serving the people.

Despite this, she is not easy to take advantage of, and has more cunning than most people give her credit for. She is not as naive as others expect her to be, associating her kindness with a naive and idealistic outlook in life. Those who know her, know that she simply wishes for the best of her people—even if it means at her own expense.

But she understands that her position comes with limitations despite the power it holds, and she dances well between her own ambitions and her duties.

She owns a varrakai hound. A female hound by the name of Selvyna, a gift from her parents when she was thirteen—the first and only thing that she has asked for them.

She is known for her nigh perfect control of her powers. what this means is that she has put an incredible control on her emotions. She knows exactly when to put a smile, and when to appease. This makes her an incredibly difficult person to read, even when most people would describe her as agreeable.

She empathizes more for the common folk than the elite, and does not agree to most of the traditions that the solkarathi people still undergo. She believes that some of their traditions, if not a majority, are too rigid that it eliminates the freedom from the country's people. This is a secret that she keeps to herself, as she does not know if she can trust anyone with this perspective of hers.

This mindset is what allows her to connect better with the Solkarathi people, and is why she interacts quite often with the common folk, so she is able to understand their perspectives and not only look at them from a gilded cage.

When she was younger, in her teenage years, she managed to find a way to sneak outside the Ignivar Spire, and into the city where the common folk mingled. Disguising herself with merely a hooded cloak and giving a false name. There are those who might've met a little girl named Mekyla.

There is a guilty part of her that wishes to be free, amidst all her control over emotions, and it is due to this that she often feels the urge to scratch herself (she does not give in), if only to feel anything other than being perfect.

Sierra Aurelthane has always been for the Kingdom of Solkarath. 

Even without the title of a princess to her name, it is without a doubt that she will live her life for the people. This is not a lesson taught to her at a young age, but it was a realization that came to her whenever she would sneak away into the cities, even if that had only begun as an act of curiosity. Perhaps it was the call of her blood—the royal blood going through her veins—that whispered in her ears, that her purpose is to serve.

What is nobility if not to serve its people? If not to lead, and to help the others? To her, the crown is a means to do that. Her position as a Heliarch means exactly that. It is a vow she had whispered to herself when she was thirteen and learning of a world beyond the gilded walls of Ignivar Spire. It is a vow that was spoken with child-like innocence and the determination of a ruler.

(It is this determination that she carries through her growing years. It is this determination that shaped her in her youth. Even when Mother’s words turn cold and her punishments harsh, she pushes through. She is smart, after all—among the brightest of her peers. She needs to prove the part, by being the very definition of excellence that surpasses even her siblings.

Mother has made it clear: either be perfect, or be useful. Sierra has chosen to be both.)

It is yet again a vow now taught to her eventually: the House of Aurelthane is meant to rule, and so shall she regardless of a crown above her head. And to rule means to be without weaknesses, to stand as the pinnacle of the Solkarathi people. To rule means to rid oneself of anything humane, for this very humanity is a weakness that will drag her down. 

She learns it the hard way—to choose between punishments for one case: a father who has stolen in hunger now stands for trial. The answer she gives is to feed the hungry. The correct answer is that discipline must be upheld. 

She chooses to do both as her principle. Uphold the law and creed of Solkarath, but do not forsake the people she is meant to serve. She just has to do it discreetly. But no acts of kindness will go unnoticed, especially by those who are so often deprived of it. It spreads like wildfire amongst the country, her acts of kindness. 

By sixteen, her Flame Binding Ritual is anticipated by all. 

Come the eve of her eighteenth birthday, the whole of Solkarath watches the Ritual with bated breath. 

The anticipation almost drowns her. Anxiety dances at the back of her mind, but she pushes it down. Mother has taught her to be better than this. Anxiety does not work with the image of an Aurelthane. Hesitation is not allowed, for one must be decisive at all times. She is an Aurelthane. By all means, the flame of the Eternal Pyre is hers. 

(But that does not erase the lingering fear. What if she is not as perfect as an Aurelthane must be?)

When she kneels before the Pyre, she feels her heart slow down in its beating. Eyes closed, ridding her mind of any distractions. Weaknesses. Vulnerabilities. Things she hopes the Pyre might burn away. Will she finally feel the embrace of the flame that her family embodies? Will the flame erase away these doubts?

“O Great Eternal Pyre,” Sierra calls, voice steady, firm, and perhaps, is that yearning in her tone? Her eyes open, and her gaze moves up to the Pyre. “Heed my call.”

The Pyre’s response is quick. It hums first, lighting up, before its flame dances around her. And just as she raises a hand, as though to touch its fire, the night sky explodes with a fiery aurora across its vastness. A flareveil, said to be the Sunfather’s breath himself. 

A blessing, the people will call it. A favor of the Sunfather, her parents will say.

(The mark of a new fitting ruler, though this is merely whispered amongst the quiet gossip of the people. The Crown Prince must not know of the crowd’s preference.)

Instead of relief and pride, however, all Sierra feels is the weight of her responsibility. Chains around her ankles, as she drags her feet back down to the end of the smoldering obsidian. She holds her head high, of course. She is an Aurelthane. Who she is beneath that does not matter in the slightest. 

But even with the Heliarchs’ proud gazes, the weight of their expectations rests upon her shoulders. Her fate is sealed in the flames of the Eternal Pyre. Her name is a title, her identity—one that is forged for her in the blaze. 

Sierra Aurelthane was born on the 13th day of Aelith, the third child and the first daughter.

~1484.

Sierra, despite being the first daughter, grew up not being her mother's favorite. Instead, she was her father's favorite. The first daughter after two sons, brighter and more cheery than her older brothers—she lit up the halls where she'd run through.

Though it did not take her long to realize that their love came with conditions.

Throughout her early years, she showed signs of great talent and intellect—talent and intellect that her father knew to hone and help it evolve into something even more powerful, already showing signs that she might just be blessed by the Eternal Pyre.

She was taught the art of being a princess. The responsibility, the knowledge, the power that came with it—all these were taught during the day, supervised by her mother. As she became well-versed with the art of politics, she was allowed to accompany her parents to court, or meeting with foreign diplomats.

She had impressed them with her wit. Even at a young age, she was able to keep up with their conversations. this became the start of her earning the favors of foreign visitors.

At night, she would escape from her guard's sight and sneak away into the cities, mingling with the common folk. Fueled by her desire to know and serve her people even better, she would rid herself of the gilded garbs of her royal blood and adorn simpler clothing, if only to experience life outside the palace.

1485.

Perfection was expected. it was not a question. Sierra, who had shown such prowess at a young age, had no other path to follow but the gilded one that had been laid before her at birth.

At the age eighteen, she held her flame binding ritual. It was no question, truly, that the flame would welcome her with a warm blaze. and, as if to seal her fate, a flareveil painted over the night sky.

The name Sierra then became synonymous with perfection. This was only part of the path that she was fated to walk the moment she was born. And so, her rigorous training began.

1486.

The first step to igniscraft is to have control over one's emotions, and for sierra, it was not simply that. It meant knowing how to smile perfectly, when to smile. It meant knowing what to say, never letting a single word of her heart drop from her mouth.

It meant there were very little moments for vulnerability. Weaknesses, after all, were not befitting of someone that belonged to the House of Aurelthane. She was only allowed to be perfect, and nothing else.

The Heliarch meant well, she knew. This was to be expected from someone of her status, after all. This perfection came with the position of her birth. They expected her to follow in their footsteps, even if the crown was not to be hers.

And yet, even if it were not to be hers, she could still feel the weight of it on the top of her head. She felt it when she would work through training, the pressure of upholding the Heliarch's expectations dancing at the tip of her fingers in the form of flames.

Perfection did not come without bruises. It did not come without failures. Meditation became a tool for her to push her emotions down, rather than to allow herself to accept them. Engraved in her system was the belief that these feelings would be her weakness.

An Aurelthane had no need for such.

In time, Sierra was recognized as one of the more advanced igniscrafters. Rigorous training while she eventually became a diplomat for the Solkarath at the age of twenty-three.

Everything she did, she did for her kingdom. She did it all for her family, and for her people. The common folk might argue that she was better suited as the Heliarch, but she had not shown any signs or hints that she would go for the throne.

Though Solkarath has been ruled by many dynasties across its two-millennia history, none have burned so brightly as the House of Aurelthane. This noble bloodline is one of the oldest houses in the nation and is said to be able to trace their origins back to the very first Flameborne chosen by Azaryon himself—a pupil that fought alongside him in the war of the gods—before he ascended for the heavens. The clan’s records claim that a Heliarchy had not yet been established back then, for the Sunfather had never intended for divine rule to be monopolized, and that is why the clan has oscillated between acting as sovereigns and their supports. Whether this is truth or fabrication, none can say for certain.

The House of Aurelthane rose to imperial prominence again nearly two centuries ago after the previous dynasty of Heliarchs were extinguished after a failed Flameborne coronation that ended in divine immolation. It was then that an Aurelthane, thought to be a ceremonial candidate at best, challenged for a claim to the throne by walking the solstice steps of Elaruun. Subsequently passing the rest of the trials unburnt, the ancestor was acknowledged by the pyroclastic order and a flareveil even occurred during their crowning as if the sun was rejoicing as well. Where many reigning families burn brightly but briefly, the House of Eternal Embers has mastered the long blaze and continue to rule with the consolidation of power through strategic statecraft and deep entwinement with the priesthood that continues to claim no Aurelthane ruler has ever failed the sunmarking.

Yet not all is as it seems. despite their respected legacy and contributions to the land, there are whispers amongst the people that the flame in the Heliarchy is dying — that it is impossible for them to sire at least one heir each generation that can bear the solar brand without consequence. Some claim that the current patriarch forewent the actual ordeal itself and instead emerged from Elaruun with a false mark — one burned into his skin by mortal hands and forbidden magic, but not the sun’s light.

Others claim that the rite of Flameborne coronation itself is no longer purely divine, but an artifice upheld in elaborately-scripted pageantry. If true, it would mean the greatest sacrilege of all: that the voice of the flame speaks with a mortal’s tongue. Should this truth ever be proven, it could fracture the very foundation of Solkarath’s divine monarchy.

Igniscraft — fire manipulation. She is considered to be one of the more advanced igniscrafters, able to create fire without oxygen, sear memories into surfaces, and burn the shadows off a person's soul. With her near perfect control over her emotions (or compartmentalization, however you want to look at it), she is envied for her control over her powers as well.

Though of course, there are moments where her own control slips. But these moments are very little in between.
