This video is a great introduction to the unit on how to prepare for weather. Students are able to see what the weather looks like and can put a visual to key vocabulary words that will be used in the lessons. Many students at this age can really benefit from visuals like this and will retain information because they enjoy watching the video.

This is a children's weather experiment kit! It is great for students who love to learn hands on and it can be used throughout the whole lesson to not only teach about weather but about how to track weather and keep data on the weather to forecast what is coming next.

Accuweather to Track Weather Around the World!

Accuweather is a great resource to show students so that they can see the different weather that is happening around the world. This is good for students who may have never travelled or for students who have travelled a lot and may have some input on what weather is like in another state/country.

It is important to include read aloud and activities that all students are able to relate to. That is why I like this "weather around the world" book. Even if a student is not from the U.S. they are able to connect to the lesson because they weather they may have experienced in another country is included in the lesson.

When talking about severe weather it is also important to talk about what happens when severe weather comes to a place we live. Using the National Weather Services is a great resource to see what states/countries are having severe weather and have conversations about how those places can prepare for the severe weather.
