This is Claud Monet's "The Water-Lily Pond". I have always loved this painting because it seems so peaceful and majestic. It is like something straight out of a fairytale! I intricate brush stokes on all of the plants makes me feel like I have been transported into a world swaying trees and drifting lilies. I think the artist wanted to convey peace and comfort in this painting. He uses realism and calm colors so make the viewer feel relaxed and content. If I was sitting on that bridge listening to the quiet but obvious sounds of the bond and plants, I would forget about anything and everything else in the world.

I wasn't sure how to login, but my name is Gabe or Gabriel and this is Kubo from the movie "Kubo and the Two Strings". I recently visited the Museum of Pop Culture in Seattle and saw Kubo in person. The exhibit "Hidden Worlds: The Films of LAIKA" was amazing and show cased stop-motion. My favorite piece of art I've seen in person are the several Kubo props used to make Kubo come alive in the movie. -Gabriel Knox

This is a porcelain plate called "Ding ware". It was used in Chine during the Song dynasty. I chose to research about it because the simplicity allured me. I love the intricate details on the plate, depicting lotus flowers, and the simple yet beautiful gold band around the rim. I compared it to a seashell because of its white color and also simple nature. Even though neither of them present awe inspiring colors or pictures, they both provide peace, clarity, and comfort which can be even more powerful than the strength and boldness presented by vibrant colors.

This is a preserved (mostly) marble head of Queen Arsinoe II, who was the ruler of Egypt after the death of Alexander the Great. I have always found the Greek culture and specifically Hellenism so interesting in my history studies. She was not only a woman of great power, but ruled with her Brother, who then became a deity, worshipped as a goddess of her people until taken over by Rome. She was credited with the completion of the Library of Alexandria, a huge archive of the ancient world. Besides my passion for the era and the Queens achievements including creating a dynasty in a man dominated world, it should overall be seen as there is always a way to achieve your goals. This famous piece of artwork has always stuck with me. Every time I see it, I get that warm and fuzzy feeling and feel the need to hug and kiss my boyfriend. I believe this piece is meant to be a declaration of love. It is more than a portrait of two figures hugging but rather a depiction of the artist's love for his partner. Instead of painting his arms embracing his partner, he painted a cloak of gold which represents his all consuming love for her. I also love the content on his partner's face showing her reciprocation. While I don't think this painting needs much context to guess the meaning behind it, I also think the fact that it was created with gold leaf adds so much. I think that was done to symbolize the value Klimt placed upon his relationship. Love is worth any cost/Love is as valuable as gold.

This artifact is posted on the museum's website because it is a non-western artifact that comes from Afghanistan. It is a Buddhist scroll written in Kharosthi script and is from 1st century AD. I like this image because it is unique and fascinating to think about.

Basket Bridge, Rosemary Lonewolf

Designed by artist Rosemary Lonewolf, it is made of steel, concrete, and paint. The goal for this bridge was to continue a bicycle/pedestrian path that includes the Rattlesnake bridge.

Lonewolf was inspired to take on the project to ensure Native culture is honored. The importance of baskets were made clear to her by a Tohono O’odham weaver and sculptor, Terrol Dew Johnson, who explained his support of her design. He noted that baskets were a part of their creation story, that they carried the burdens of their people. The coyote tracks and lizards were also strong symbols of their culture as they are creatures of the desert.

Not only does the bridge bring a colorful liveliness to ugly highways, but it is a symbol of love to Arizona’s heritage. The design is able to honor the culture we do not often appreciate.
