This disease affects how the body is with sugar or also known as glucose. There is two different types of Diabetes, Type 1 and Type 2. Type 1 is when the immune system attacks and destroys the insulin producing cells in the pancreas which leads to complete lack of insulin production. Type 2 is when the body becomes resistant to insulin or does not produce enough insulin to meet its needs.

High OR Low Blood Sugar Levels

For Type 1 diabetes, there is not enough sugar within the blood while for Type 2 diabetes there is too much sugar inside the blood. For Type 2, when that happens there is too much build of glucose occurring which results in high blood sugar.

Extreme Hunger

Sometimes someone with diabetes can experience extreme hunger. Our cells in our body need sugar for energy. When the sugar is trapped within the bloodstream then they are not giving the energy the other cells need to work properly. Cells are always starving so sugar is used a fuel to keep them doing their job. So when someone is not getting enough sugar to fuel the cells, it alerts the brain saying they are starving and need fuel.

Weight Lost and/or Gain

Diabetes can cause weight gain and/or weight loss. For Type 1 diabetes, it is weight lost. Since the body is not producing the right amount sugar needed this causes the body to starve and begins to break down. The body starts to loss fat and muscle. As for Type 2 diabetes, it is weight gain. Since the body is producing way more sugar then that causes a slow metabolism and lots of cravings that can turn into overeating.

Slow Healing

Slow healing can relate to high blood sugar levels. High blood sugar can damage blood vessels, weaken the immune system, nerve damage, and the ability to repair tissue within the blood. For diabetes patients, they have a harder time to recover.

Insulin injections is a common treatment for Type 1 diabetes. Insulin is delivered into the body to help regulate blood sugar levels.

Medications

Medication is another common treatment to be used. Depending on the type of diabetes someone has they are given specific medication to take. For Type 1, it is insulin injections or pumps. For Type 2, it is medication that are for improving insulin sensitivity, stimulate insulin production, and reducing glucose absorption.

A1C Test

A1C test helps measure the blood sugar levels and shows how much sugar is attached to hemoglobin. It is also taken every few months to show differences.

FPG Test

FPG, also known as Fasting Plasma Glucose, test is measuring blood sugar after fasting. It is basically a regular blood test you do for when you go to get your blood taken and you have to fast for how many hours before hand.
