Alongside his studies, which he began in 2019, Tyler Allen is an undergraduate research assistant at the Gainesville, FL university. In the role, he works with a research team to analyze the potential impact of gamification on engineering education. To that end, he utilizes research to develop software applications that promote further participation in class. He is also using this research to establish a thermodynamics mobile application for students. The app, which is being created with Java, will replace an older desktop-only application. Tyler Allen is also a research assistant with Santa Fe College in Gainesville, FL. With the college, he is using Raspberry Pi and Python to develop an app that helps teach students programming. Using 3D printing, he has also improved students’ access to materials needed for lab experiments.
