For HBLE, you will have both a morning (AM, before 12pm) task and an afternoon (PM, from 12 - 7pm) task.

AM: Look through the given resources and note down the key points. Then, craft a paragraph for either the thesis or anti-thesis to the following discussion question:
"To what extent does greater government spending improve the SOL of a country's citizens?"

If you see that many have already written paragraphs for the thesis, try writing the anti-thesis instead. Remember to use PEEL to guide your writing.

When posting, use your name as the title (otherwise your teacher can't check if you've completed your work).

PM: Read through the arguments written by your classmates. Then, comment on an argument made by one of your classmates (more if you wish). In your comment, you may:
1. Question assumptions made
2. Write a counter-argument
3. Elaborate on the extent

Greater government spending will lead to greater spending on healthcare, social services and public infrastructure. As Singapore's economy is doing well, the government has injected funds into building more infrastructure due to good economic conditions in the country. Hence, the government has to expand more on public projects as an act of fiscal stimulus. This will therefore increase government expenditure and thus, increase AD which will improve economic growth and improve the SOL of the citizens. This will also increase AS in the long run as there will be an increase in capital such as public infrastructure which will increase the productive capacity of the economy. Thus, with the increase in capital, there would be an increase in AS in the long run. This would then increase potential economic growth due to an increase in GDP and GPL which would then improve the material SOL of the citizens.

Greater government spending does not improve the SOL of a country's citizens. As the Greek's economy has fallen into reverse and unemployment on the rise, the economic conditions of the country is very poor. When an economy is in recession, aggregate demand components like C and I will fall due to pessimism. In order to prevent further falls in AD, the government usually injects funds into the economy. Thus, government expenditure will increase as an act of fiscal stimulus. But since the economic conditions of Greece is poor, the government expenditure will decrease, leading to a fall in AD. There would be also a fall in AS in the long run as there is a shortage of the quantity of labor such as the case in Singapore due to an ageing population. Thus, this would decrease the country's potential economic growth leading an decrease in the material SOL of the citizens.
