Cowperthwaite goes through reasons why sea world and capturing animals in general is unethical and bad. She gets first hand accounts of people who experienced the whales. One whom regretted helping steal a baby whale from its herd. in interviews the workers admitted that they thought it was wrong to have the whales in captivity together with injuries happening from other whales due to raking.

The film primarily uses emotion mainly because of the controversial nature of the situation. Besides that, they use it to solidify their viewpoint and to show the viewer the reality of the situation. they even show the emotion of the whales after events that happened to them. They provide more information to the background of the whales such as how their brain works, their communication skills, and what they're capable of based on their high intelligence. They also use interviews with numerous people to display their reaction to questions or their response to a question regarding an incident such as the accidents that happened with the trainers.

The director wanted to make a comparison between being in captivity vs being in the vast ocean. For this she included the fact that whales are dependent on communication with other whales and that other whales wont get along if they have different cultures or are different in general. in an interview, one of the trainers said that whale to whale violence never happened in the wild because if there was any tension, there would be enough space to separate compared to the small enclosure where none of the whales get along and are forced to be together.

The director points out many instances where the company had lied to protect themselves. In one instance involving the aftermath of the Tilikum whale accident, they lied about knowing if the whale was capable of that behavior in the past. They also tried to make things that happened to the whale in captivity normal such as floppy dorsal fins and a much shorter than average life span. whenever an accident involving a trainer happened, they would say that it was the trainers fault and that they made an error.

After watching the film, i feel like it has changed my opinion on animals in general. It was a good film with evidence to back everything. It has showed me animals are just like us and probably are even more smarter than us.
