         <description><![CDATA[<div>Frederick Augustus Washington Bailey was an escaped slave who later became a leader of an abolitionist movement, which set out to end slavery. Douglass wrote many autobiographies along with noteworthy speeches detailing his times as a slave. He became known as the "father of the civil rights movement", dedicating his life to shape the American nation fighting for equality.</div>]]></description>

Douglass was moved from master to master, and each time he resisted the tyranny of slavery more and more. In the end, Douglass escapes when working in a Baltimore shipyard.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Douglass focused on abolishing slavery, writing many books on the topic, and speaking in abolitionist meetings. He became part of the "Hundred Conventions" project where he toured the United States talking about anti-slavery.<br><br>Douglass also became involved in women's rights. He was the only African American to attend the Seneca Falls Convention - a meeting of women's rights activists. Douglass published his own newsletter, named the North Star that included his abolitionist views.</div>]]></description>
