         <description><![CDATA[<div>Since John lost his wife, it sounds like he is having a hard time nurturing his relationship with himself, and is using prescription drugs and alcohol as a band aid. Now that he and Tina are in a relationship, perhaps his therapist can help him learn how to point out in himself that he is deserving of happiness and recognizing the happiness that he brings to his relationship with Tina. While he may not be religious, he can perhaps find some type of non-denominational spiritual practice to bring peace of mind - even if it is recognizing one gratitude a day in the morning then revisiting it that night.<br>Volunteering for a cause that is important to him could also help with finding meaning and will also grow his community.</div>]]></description>

He may start a journal practice so he may be able to express his emotions instead of turning to substances to mask what he's been feeling. Allowing himself to grieve will improve his mental and emotional wellbeing.</p><p><br/></p><p>Another way is to volunteer as mentioned before. By volunteering, it allows John to be of service and by connecting to others, he may not feel so alone.
