Travelers were inspired by dreams of gold and rich farmlands, but they were also motivated by difficult economic times in the east and the diseases like yellow fever and malaria that were decimating the Midwest.The trip took 4-6 months by wagon traveling 15 miles a day. Traveling the trail challenged the strength and determination of pioneer families.</div>]]></description>

It was set to escape religious discrimination.They arrived in Autumn, so they had to plant crops before the land froze and became impossible to plough. It was difficult to plough the land the first time because the surface was hard.</div>]]></description>
