A cup of paint tied to the rope will be released, causing paint to spill on a canvas. The cup swings back and forth due to gravity, but the friction causes it to eventually stop. The students should also note that when the cup is gently released, it does not move as fast or far, however, when the cup is pushed, more paint will fly out of the cup.

STEAMsational

This activity allows students to be creative and choose their own colors. This also teaches about chemical reactions. When the Alka-Seltzer tablets are placed in the paint and tipped upside down, the canister will "explode," causing the paint to splatter over the canvas. Students could also predict how long they think it will take to explode or how far the paint will go.

Some weather patterns could be explained through the use of the bag. When the bag and water get warm, the water evaporates. When it cools, it forms a cloud. When the cloud can no longer hold water, it falls like rain.
