France's literacy rate is about 99% (age 15 and over can read and write). Considering 14% of adults in the United States cannot read, 21% of U.S adults read below a 5th grade reading level, and 19% of high school graduates cannot read, France seems to be ahead of the game. Most French students go through nursery school (kindergarten), primary school (elementary), middle, and high school. French schooling is generally free and mandatory from ages 6-16, however universities prefer 6-18.
Health care in France is excellent and was almost ranked best overall healthcare in the world. They spent 11.6% of GDP on healthcare. Welfare includes protection of people against the financial consequences and social risks. Social risks include anything that could jeopardize the economic security of the individual or their family.

French People live a long time. France ranks 20th in the world for life expectancy at 81.8 years. The males live approximately 79.1 years and females live to be around 85.8 years old. France's infant morality rate is very low. It is 3 deaths per 1000 lives. My guess for why France's infinite mortality rate is very low is because they are a MDC and they are living in places that are well sanitized and where there are hospitals where the children can be born. Their Natural Increase Rate is 3.78 which is around average. The united states is 5.75. Their Crude birth rate is 12.43. Again around an average number compared to other MDC's In the world.

France's GDP per capita is around $42,300(USD). Ranking 15th in the world.Frances economic structure is a mixed economy that features characteristics of both socialism and capitalism. It makes it less brutal than total capitalism but more efficient that socialism. If you divided France's GDP by the number of hours worked you would find that the French are achieving some of the highest returns on work hours invested. Some of France's raw materials are crude fertilizers, minerals eluding coal, petroleum and precious stone. France's major imports are crude oil, aircraft machinery, chemicals, plastics, and vehicles. Also some smaller imports include petroleum, iron, and transportation equipment

France is definitely a country in which produces their own food. Some of the most productive farms are located in Northern France, however some are located in other parts due to climate and soil. Their farms export more food than any other European country. France is the only country in Europe to be completely self-sufficient. France is also one of the leaders in Europe in the value of agricultural exports. Examples include: cotton, oils, sugar, wheat, beef, etc. Although France is ahead of the game with producing food, their farm acreage has decreased since the 1950's by more than one million acres. Even though it may sound bad, France is still going strong and staying self-sufficient.
