Hey there, Day 1 of my practicum journey, and I'm buzzing with excitement! Stepping into the school grounds, I was greeted by a whirlwind of new faces and possibilities. My first stop was a rendezvous with the Penolong Kanan Pentadbiran, aka Sir Megat. After a warm introduction, I eagerly handed over my stack of practicum documents for his perusal and signature – the official stamp to kickstart this adventure. Sir Megat wasted no time briefing me on the school dynamics and my role, adding a personal touch by sharing some nuggets about the place.

But the real highlight came when he ushered me to meet the Guru Kanan Bahasa, Puan Ida, and Madam Saraswathy. We dove into discussions about my first task and what lies ahead for me during this practicum rollercoaster. With excitement bubbling over, I passed them my practicum guidelines, eager for their insights. Sir Megat wasn't done playing the guide – our next stop was a meet-and-greet with the principal, Puan Rahmah. We delved into discussions about my stint here, making me feel like an integral part of the school's fabric.

The icing on the cake? I found my designated spot in the teacher's lounge, rubbing shoulders with fellow practicum teachers from different colleges. It's like a hub of knowledge exchange, and I can already sense the warmth building. To add a cherry on top, we took a stroll around the school, mapping out its layout, and I couldn't help but soak in the vibes of this new chapter. So here's to the whirlwind of Day 1 – the paperwork, the meet-ups, the teachers' lounge – all wrapped up in the anticipation of what's to come. Let the practicum journey unfold! 🌟

WEEK 1 HIGHLIGHTS

Week 1 of my practicum journey has been a rollercoaster of emotions, and boy, did it kick off with a bang! After a slight hiccup of not receiving my punch card on the first day, I was relieved to find it in my hands the very next day – crisis averted! While we were still in the dark about our assigned mentors, we were thrown into the world of relief classes. Acting on Sir Megat's advice, I approached Puan Ida to get the scoop on mentor assignments. Interestingly, Sir Megat threw me into the deep end, suggesting I handle all relief for his English class in 3 Imtiyaz. Nervous but determined, I took charge and stepped into my first relief class, a nerve-wracking encounter with a form 5 group. As an introvert with a touch of self-doubt, it was gut-wrenching, but I reminded myself – no quitting allowed here! To my surprise, the students were not just friendly; they were the epitome of well-behaved and respectful. The nervousness melted away as we chatted, creating an atmosphere of ease and comfort.

Now, onto the highlight of the week – a farewell celebration for Sir Megat, who's not only moving to another school but also snagged a promotion to principal. My admiration for him as an educator and person made bidding him farewell a tad bittersweet. The silver lining? Celebrations equate to free food, and the teachers went all out with a feast. The sheer joy of indulging in various delicious dishes became the absolute highlight of my week. It's funny how a good meal can turn around the mood, and being invited by a teacher to partake in the function felt like a well-deserved reward. Here's to navigating the twists and turns of Week 1 – punch cards, relief classes, bidding adieu to Sir Megat and delicious celebrations! 🎉

Monday kicked off with a new challenge – helping out with Form 3's exam week. The nerves were real, considering I'd never supervised an exam before. Surprisingly, it all went off without a hitch, and I couldn't be happier about it. Wednesday was a different vibe; no relief class meant a whole day dedicated to updating my practicum documents and journal entries. Then came Thursday, a day entirely devoted to Form 5 classes – 5 Intan, 5 Zirkon, 5 Mutiara, and 5 Jade. I won't lie; stepping into Form 5 for the first time left me wondering how it would pan out. Thankfully, the students turned out to be not just friendly but incredibly helpful, guiding me around the school and even offering a heartfelt "take care."

Amidst the routine, Thursday threw an unexpected twist – an emergency situation. En route to class, a Form 5 student had an epilepsy attack. Panic set in, especially with no teachers around, but I quickly composed myself, ensuring the class remained under control. With a calm demeanor, I contacted their homeroom teacher, prioritized the student's safety, and even learned to position him on his side to prevent choking. It was a crash course in handling unexpected situations, teaching me the importance of staying in control for the well-being of the students.

Friday, the last lap of the week, started with the usual relief classes, including 5 Topaz, where absenteeism was high. Back in the teacher's lounge, a delightful surprise awaited – a slice of cheese carrot cake from my friend Nasran. It was so good that I found myself craving a second serving. I always live by the rule to say yay to free food, and this cake was the perfect way to wrap up the week. Indeed, Friday is synonymous with food day, and what a delicious way to bid the week adieu! 🍰

What a whirlwind week in the realm of my practicum journey! It all started with the usual routine of being assigned a relief class, and let me tell you, there's a certain groove settling in that makes being at school feel more like a second home. Just as the comfort vibes kicked in, the excitement skyrocketed with the commencement of UBBI (UJIAN BERTUTUR BAHASA INGGERIS) for SPM students on January 17th. Talk about being thrown into the thick of it! The English committee called upon me to be part of the action, managing students and ensuring the gears of exam week turn seamlessly for this two-week extravaganza.

Bright and early mornings became my arena as I took on the role of breakfast distributor, dishing out bread and water to fuel the students for their exam day ahead. But the real adventure unfolded as I orchestrated the pre-exam chaos, gathering students based on their class sequence, ensuring they safely returned to their classes after their sessions, with three sessions back to back – a real test of my organizational skills!

As the week drew to a close, there were bittersweet moments. I bid farewell to my friend Husna, who completed her practicum journey. We snapped pictures, and I handed her a small goodbye gift. It was a tad emotional because she's not just a great friend, but her presence added so much fun to the practicum routine. The uncertainty of meeting again in the future added a hint of sadness.

On a brighter note, Friday brought another feast hosted by the teachers, this time bidding goodbye to a colleague set to resign soon. It's amazing how these shared meals weave a sense of community in the school fabric. Here's to the unexpected twists, heartfelt farewells, and the anticipation of what each new week in this practicum journey will bring! 🌟
