The Camp David Accordsm signed in 1978, were a peace agreement brkkered by U.S. President Jimmy Carter between Egyptian President Anwar Sadat and Israeli Prime Minister Menachem Begin. The accords led to Egypt recognizing Israel as a sovereign state, and Israel withdrawing from the Sinai Peninsula, which had been occupied since the 1967 Six-Day War. The agreement marked a significant step towards peace in the Middle East and paved the way for the Egypt-Israel Peace Treaty in 1979.
