1) Main ideas
-Deb Roy recorded his son’s language acquisition process to understand the influence of social environments on language acquisition.
-Every time his son would learn a word, they would trace back and look at all of the language he heard that contained that word
2) New things I learnt
-The caregivers were sistematically restructuring their language to meet him (the baby) at the birth of a word and bring him (the baby) gently into more complex language
-The baby learns from the environment and the environment learns from the baby creating a kind of scaffolding
3) Question corner

1) Main ideas
-Parents tend to focus on meaning rather than form when they correct children's speech
-The principal way that teachers can influence learners' motivation is by making the classroom a supportive environment in which students are stimulated, engaged in activities that are appropriate to their age, interests, and cultural backgrounds, and most importantily, where students can experience success
-when the objective is native-like performance in the second language, it may be desirable to begin exposure to the language as early as possible but when the goal if the educational programme is basic communicative skill, it can be more efficient to begin second language teaching later
-group and pair work is a valuable addition to the variety of activities that encourage and promote second language development
2) New things I learnt
-Imitation is necessary but it is not the only thing you need because it is an individual learning strategy but not a universal characteristic of language learners
-A research has shown that learners with a wide variety of intellectual abilities can be successful language learners
-Native language is one of the major sources of errors in learner language.
-Research has shown that no matter how language is presented to learners, certain structures are acquired before others
3) Question corner

1) Main ideas
- The adquisition of native-speaker pronunciation in any language is biologically possible only about the age of 12.
- This age is the age at which cerebral lateralization is completed
- There are 2 hemisferes of the brain. The left and the right one.
- Control of most language function is permanently located in the left hemisphere.
- Aphasia: Loss of language abilities associated with brain damage from injury or disease.
It seems that a child's brain has a degree of flexibility that allows the right hemisphere to take over the functions of the left.

2) New things I learnt
- Cerebral lateralization: Is the process by which the two hemispheres of the brain increasingly specialize in particular functions.
- I have learnt that the adqusition of the language or all the content in relation with the languages are located in the left hemisphere of the brain. I didn't know anything about the brain functions so is very curious to know something about it.

3) Question corner

1) Main ideas
- By the end of their first year, most babies understand quite a few frequently repeated words.
- Also with 12 months, most babies will have begun to produce a word or two that everyone recognizes.
- Between three and a half and 4 years, most children can ask questions, give commands, create imaginary stories... complete with correct gramatical morphemes.

2) New things I learnt
- "Telegraphic" sentences: When they begin to combine words into simple sentences such as "Mommy juice" It sarts when they are about two, time when produce at least 50 different words and some produce many may more.
- It is gennerally accepted that by age four, children have mastered the basic structures of the language (or languages) which have been spoken to them in these early years.
- Metalinguistic awareness: The ability to treat language as an object, separate from the meaning it conveys.

3) Question corner
