Our Year 1 staff is Miss Wall (teacher), Mrs Hudson (teaching assistant), Ms Collette and Mrs MacNab (1:1 support teaching assistants). We look forward to meeting everyone soon.

We are all looking forward to a wonderful year in Year 1.

In English, we will be focusing on fundamental skills such as identifying and using nouns, verbs, capital letters and full stops. We will be basing our learning on two books, Eliot Midnight Superhero and Supertato.

In Geography, we will be learning about where we are in the world. This involves exploring our school in person and with maps, discovering maps of Lichfield and using simple compass directions (North, South, East and West) to describe position and direction.

In Science, we will be learning about simple body parts, such as knees, head and arms. We will also be completing in-depth explorations of the senses through practical experiments.

In Art, we will begin our learning by discovering the life and art George Perez, an excellent comic and superhero artist! We will then make our own superhero using clay.

In DT, we will research, design, make and evaluate fruit smoothies. This will also have a cross-curricular link to Science where we will learn about healthy eating through a balanced diet.

In RE, our Christianity focus question is 'Does God want Christians to look after the world?'. We will learn about the Christian creation story and how Christians look after God's creation. We will also develop our own ideas of how everyone can look after the world.

In Computing, we will begin with E-Safety, learning how to stay safe online and how to seek help if needed. We will also begin to explore Purple Mash and how to use it more independently by logging in, locating work and saving before logging out. This is a great part of learning to practise at home once Purple Mash logins have been received.

Finally, in PSHE, we will be learning about being in our new world in Year 1, including responsibilities, what a happy and safe classroom looks like and rewards and consequences.

We will also compare numbers to 10 by considering one more, one less, using less than, greater than and equal to and finally by ordering numbers and objects.

Please do continue to practice the lines and songs up until the performances. When we complete our dress rehearsals after our costumes are brought in on

1st December, we are hoping those with 7 lines or less are able to read without a script or prompt - you can do it!
