This was important because the incident regarded a law in Canada on how immigrants cannot settle in Canada if they take any stops on the voyage to Canada. The Komagata Maru took many stops and therefore were stopped from even getting off the boat. Many of the passenger were denied but only few who were Canadian citizens were aloud to enter after a long standoff. After the incident Canada experienced extreme racism towards Asians and many immigrants all together.
