Panay Island, which is divided by a central mountain range, and is rich in fertile land, mangrove forests, and flower gardens, has long used its natural resources to support livelihoods. Panay Island tourism, a prominent tourist destination is known for its opportunities to stay nearby pristine beaches and go trekking into the forest. However, evident in the mismanagement of Boracay Island which lead to its closure in 2018, these areas and the ecosystem it supports can be threatened greatly by human actions. Tourism highly contributes to our economy. If tourist spots are not preserved, there won’t be destinations to attract tourists, therefore there will be no monetary exchange to support local tourism and consequently the region’s economy.

Moreover, other forms of exploitation on the island’s lush forests have made it harder for residents to naturally mitigate natural disasters which come their way, and increasing harms from climate change may contribute to the loss of habitats and consequently, casualties in human and wild life.
