The Three Types of Tennis Rackets

Joel Tovel is a graduate of Concordia University, where earned a BA in marketing and international business. When away from his professional responsibilities, Joel Tovel enjoys participating in various sports, including tennis.

Choosing a racket can be difficult, but players can dramatically simplify their options by deciding between one of the three basic types of tennis rackets. Below is a brief description of these three racket types:

1. Power: ideal for beginners, power rackets feature an over-sized head and stiff frame. They are longer than the other types of rackets available and are generally lighter. Thanks to their design, power rackets are capable of generating power when players are not skilled enough to create significant power through racket-head speed.

2. Control: control rackets sit at the opposite end of the spectrum and are perfect for professional and seasoned tennis players. Instead of generating power, control rackets have improved handling and accuracy. These types of rackets are often shorter in length and have a smaller head. They are heavier, but the frame is more flexible.

3. Tweener: providing a compromise between power and control rackets, tweener rackets offer both control and power. Most younger players and beginners are well-suited for a tweener racket, which features a mid-sized head and average length and weight. However, due to the versatility of this type of racket, it can be used effectively by players of varying skill levels.
