I imagine the shadow to be like a long curtain with no shape once it's removed from her. However once she washes it, it shrinks and is lighter due to the bleach. 

Once I saw the illustration the author wrote  I looked at the poem differently because the drawing depicts the shadow to be similar to a piece of clothing and she herself is now all white (light colored clothing) and the shadow is still pitch black.

For my drawing I chose the poem on page 55.
