Using my reading data, I noticed that I can get distracted easily and my mind wanders. When this happens, I avoid reading by taking a break and going to the bathroom. I then waste time and only read a few pages. When I get back from my break, I have to reread those same pages and end up not making progress in my story. Therefore, my goal is to stay focused for 20 minutes during silent reading before needing a break.

We learn that he loved her and really wanted to marry her. He values her and sees her as a delicate, elegant, desirable woman. The message would have been significantly different if the author said, “As if she were a sack of potatoes.”

These piece of figurative language is personification because the author is giving human qualities (holding their breath) to an object (windows). It is effective because it helps the reader understand just how small the windows are by using something everyone can relate to. We all know what it looks like when someone is holding their breath or sucking in to look smaller. We can relate this to the windows and better visualize the windows.
