WHO I AM.

Jaylin Perez is my name. I'm a radiant, empathic, extroverted individual. I feel deeply for the environment, women, and realistically anything in need of combatting social justice. I am a first-generation 'no sabo' Latina and an adoptee of Texas. I was raised in a handful of towns, homes, cultures, and norms. I was a victim of "Adoption Trauma" & unfortunately placed in an inhuman home. Although this was unfortunate, it ultimately sparked my dream career to work in law enforcement and advocate for children in need of justice and equality!

WHAT LOVE MEANS TO ME.

Love to me signifies trust, kindness, passion, patience, and joy. Love can derive from different aspects of life including companionship, friendship, or simply the "little things" in life. All of which play a part in the way we perceive the world. Love to me means faithfulness and romance. When surrounded in love I feel most like my authentic self. I strongly believe love is not to be chased, but to be found under the excruciating circumstances of life. I come from a little family... although love has been poured into me from my beautiful friendships in life and my loving relationship with my United States Marine.

I first heard this song during my senior year, and it left a good knot in my throat. As a senior, I was more of a woman than I'd ever known myself to be. At this age, it was important to assure myself daily who I was, and what being a woman means to me. I posted this song to my senior year Instagram photos because it describes my mentality PERFECTLY. I am a woman who came into this world very alone & learned independence at an early age and this song was more than just a song to me. It taught me the importance of being an independent fearless woman.

I have been gifted with the gift of "lens perception". Growing up I loved taking photos and had always been encouraged to buy a camera. Last year, I was gifted my first digital camera and I instantly got to work. I started my own business and helped create and publish the first newspaper at my High school. This gift helped me pursue a passion for journalism & storytelling in Photography. Through these actions, I embraced my gift of photography while also sharing my wisdom picked up from writing and reporting. I now can articulate stories through one-time captures and build a resume from my journalistic point of view.

WHAT SIGNIFIES HOME TO ME.

While I did live in many different towns growing up, I know where I felt most at home. Good ole' San Marcos Texas, home of the Edwards Aquifer attracting tourist from all over Texas. It was unique to not be a tourist visiting every once in awhile because I got to enjoy the waters everyday. Home to me is sun bathing in the hill country and jumping off waterfalls into blue waters right here in Texas. Home is all the secret swimming attractions I discovered throughout my 4 years of living here. Home to me is the San Marcos River.

I never thought in a million years I would be a reptile mother until Rango came along. Rango is my one and only pet , he's a Fancy Leopard Gecko straight from Petco. Rango was a spontaneous purchase by my boyfriend and I. After taking the time to get to know his species needs & likings, we quickly found him to be the perfect pet. Rango screams when he's mad and I find it funny when people who dont know that hear him scream loudly. I wouldn't trade my reptile for the world.

WHAT I HOPE TO LEARN.

I hope to learn more about the history of women in politics and how they changed the trajectory of the political world. More specifically the social challenges women faced and continue to face today. I care deeply for the progression of females in social and political matters. I want to be more academically in tune with women's history because I want to go into the field of law enforcement and politics as a female.

Liberation throughout women's history means females collectively pushing for gender equality and empowerment of women. Through movements that challenge gender roles, and evenly distribute social rights opportunities, women continue to break social injustice and coexist in a male-capitalized world.

WHERE HOME IS TO ME.

Although It sounds corny, Home is where my friends are. As an adoptee, my perception of "home" wasn't like most. Nor was it a specific family or even a physical home but rather those I surrounded myself with at school and in my own life. I believe home can be found in anything both people and places.
