Balram is unhappy that his master Ashok has sullied himself once again. The idealised view that Balram tells us he once had of his master has unravelled over the course of the novel. His wife has left him, he has acted like a "pathetic baby" and now he is with a blond haired prostitute in a hotel.
Ashok expresses his disgust by spitting on the seats of the Honda Civic, punching the ogre and gnawing on the wheel. These actions are symbolic acts of defiance and frustration and tie in with his previous act of spitting at God at the Fort. The chapter concludes with a deep sense of foreboding as Balram talks, metaphorically, to the city of Delhi. There are ominous references to "blood on the streets".
There is a sense here that Balram is portraying the gradual disappearance of Ashok, perhaps as an attempt to justify his decision to eliminate him and adopt his identity.

Balram has noticed Ashok becoming weaker especially after Pinky Madam left, and Balram begins to gain control later on, by cheating Ashok by selling petrol money and driving around without Ashok's permission. So as Ashok is becoming more corrupted by sleeping around and getting drunk, Balram is also increasingly becoming more corrupted

Balram expressed his built up anger and rage after he dropped off Mr. Ashok and his female friend in the city to party. He was sick and tired of being just the servant and having no luxuries, he finally goes past his tipping point and disobeys his masters orders by damaging the car. When he mistreats the car, at that time he feels as though he is a powerful leader, playing the car music loud, putting the A/C on. However, as time passes, he comes to the realization that he is still a servant stuck in the rooster coop which he is yet to escape, thus he cleans up his mess and feels a sense of guilt.

This quote highlights that the elections in India are corrupt. This relates to the rest of the novel because the theme of corruption constantly arises. Another example of corruption in the text is that Ashok is only in India to pay of ministers for his father’s coal business. Balram is sick of all this corruption and it is one of his biggest dislikes of India because it means that he can never be a free man.
