What is the size of Jupiter?
Jupiter has a radius of 69,911km which makes it the largest planet in the solar system.
What is the planet made of?
Jupiter is predominantly composed of hydrogen and helium, giving it the title "gas planet".
How far is the planet from Earth?
At their closest point during their orbits, Jupiter and Earth are just 588 million kilometers away! At their furthest, they are 968 million kilometers apart.
How far is the planet from the sun?
At it's closest - during orbit - Jupiter sits 741 million kilometers away from the sun and it's furthest distance from the sun is 817 million kilometers.
How long is one rotation on Jupiter?
Jupiter has a single rotation time of 9 hours and 50 minutes at the equator. Polar regions (far northern and southern ends of the planet) will finish the rotation with a 6 minute delay as the planet is purely gasses and follows the equator with a trail
How long is one orbit on Jupiter?
Jupiter's orbit takes 12 Earth years
DID YOU KNOW?
- If you parachute into Jupiter you will not find a firm place to land as it is purely just gas.
- Jupiter is 318 times bigger than Earth, in fact it is 2.5 times bigger than all of the other planets in the solar system combined!
- Jupiter has 67 moons!
- You can see Jupiter with your own eyes! How? It is the third brightest object in our solar system, it can be seen as a unusually big bright star, if you have a telescope you may be able to see its moons next to as well!
