Prohibition was a law that made it illegal to make, sell, or transport alcohol in the United States. The 18th Amendment was the constitutional change that started Prohibition in 1920. Bootlegging is when people secretly made or sold alcohol during Prohibition, often breaking the law. The 18th Amendment led to increased organized crime in the United States during the 1920s because illegal alcohol became a big business for criminals. As people still wanted to drink, gangs took over the production and distribution of alcohol, leading to violence and corruption. This created a cycle where Prohibition fueled crime, and crime made it harder to enforce Prohibition laws.

The Red Scare of the 1920s was caused by fears of communism and radical leftist movements following the Russian Revolution. The Palmer Raids were government actions led by Attorney General A. Mitchell Palmer, where law enforcement arrested thousands of suspected radicals without proper legal procedures. The Sacco and Vanzetti case became famous because many people believed they were unfairly convicted due to their political beliefs and being immigrants.

Jazz emerged as the dominant genre, characterized by its improvisational style and vibrant rhythms. The decade also saw the rise of blues, which expressed deep emotions and stories of hardship, while popular music was influenced by the Charleston dance. Two influential artists are Louis Armstrong and Bessie Smith. Louis Armstrong is known for his innovative trumpet playing and unique vocal style, Armstrong's song "What a Wonderful World". Bessie Smith: is often referred to as the "Empress of the Blues," Smith's powerful voice and emotional delivery were exemplified in her song "Downhearted Blues."

Hiram Evans was a very influential person during the Roaring 20s. He was one of the leaders of the Ku Klux Klan (KKK). He focused on increasing membership and public visibility, often using parades and rallies to promote the Klan's ideology. Moving on to causes of racial tension I will name 5 causes. 1. Great Migration 2. Rise of the Ku Klux Klan 3. Economic Competition 4. Cultural Changes 5. Legislation and Segregation. The Dr. Ossian Sweet case in the 1920s was a landmark legal trial involving a black doctor and his family who moved into a white neighborhood in Detroit. It was a very significant moment in the fight against racial violence and discrimination in America.
