To improve absence of trust...

-Members must admit their weaknesses and mistakes, give on another the benefit of the doubt before making negative conclusions, offer some feedback and assistance when needed, take the time to focus on the important issues, apologize without hesitation and look forward to working as a team in future meetings.

To improve fear of conflict...

-Members and the leader especially must make the meetings lively and interesting, solve the real issues upfront and quickly, and put most politics and other outside issues aside.

To improve lack of commitment...

-The team should make the direction and main priorities of the meeting clear, align the members around common objectives, and move forward in the meeting as well as change direction without hesitations.

To improve avoidance of accountability...

-The members should hold each other accountable. They should also establish respect among each other so they can get around to actually discussing the real issues.

To improve inattention to details...

-All of the team members need to avoid distractions. For example, Neil kept leaving the meeting because someone kept calling him. Once the meeting starts, everyone should put their phones on silent to avoid those distractions. Members should also minimize individualistic behavior and focus on the team as a whole. They could even set their own goals and achievements to help improve the good of the team.

How areas of dysfunction is impacting the team’s performance

The areas of dysfunction in this meeting are negatively impacting this team’s performance as described below:

Absence of Trust--The team members are not genuine to one another; they bash each other and can’t really have normal conversations. The conversations that they did have were very scattered and all over the place. They didn't discuss each other's strengths and weaknesses appropriately.

Fear of conflict--Only a few members seemed to have had passion about the issue; for example, Ashley wanted to brainstorm but was overshadowed by all of the complaining. Their conversations were somewhat compelling but not in the right way; a lot was going on but it seems that the most important/difficult issues were not put on the table to be discussed and resolved.

Lack of commitment--Some of the members weren’t fully engaged and committed; nobody knows what their group members have been working on. There is not a lot of contributing/collaboration from all members and everything seems to be unorganized. Rodney left the meeting not feeling confident, which probably left everyone else feeling more confused than before. Nobody can agree on anything and there is so much chaos they can’t even talk about what they need to be discussing.

Avoidance of accountability--The team members call out each other’s deficiencies/unproductive behavior and they appear to not care about letting each other down. They are not appropriately challenging each other and there is no apparent team aspect within this group.

Inattention to results--Most members are not willing to make sacrifices to get the job done. People left the meeting for other meetings and others are complaining for being asked to stay late. The group's leader Rodney shouts as he leaves without having a clear resolution for this project.

Overall, the meeting was a waste of time and very little got accomplished. Their focus was not on how meet the deadline for their client. The team members seemed to be more focused on themselves, each other's personal issues and was not being lead in the right direction.
