Design of the Globe Theater

The Globe Theater was William Shakespeare's flagship stage. The theater got its round shape from its inspiration, the Roman Coliseum, as my source, www.elizabethan-era.org.uk, reports, "The design of the Globe theater was based on the Roman Coliseum but built on a much smaller scale." The creation of the theater was not without trouble though. There was once a former theater right across the Thames where Shakespeare used to work. Due to legal issues, the theater was forced to move across the Thames where it stood till it was closed. The United Kingdom then re-opened the theater 300 ft from its original location.
The construction of the building finished in 1598. The overseer of the construction was one, Peter Smith, as my article from, www.elizabethan-era.org.uk, describes, "The Globe was built by carpenter Peter Smith and his workers..." The building reached up to 100 feet in diameter as stated by www.theaterseatstore.com. To top of the building, paintings of the sky were painted on the downward facing part of the roof. For all the brilliance of William Shakespeare, he didn't actually design the theater. Though holding shares in it and eventually using it, Shakespeare had little to no influence in the creation of the building. Now the building stands as a symbol to the world of Shakespeare's brilliance in not architecture but literature.

Sources:
Globe Theatre Design and Structure, http://www.elizabethan-era.org.uk/globe-theatre-design-and-structure.htm.
Crimes and Punishments

The crimes and punishments were really horrendous during the Elizabethan Era since the Queen doesn't take crimes lightly."The most common crimes were theft, cut purses, begging, poaching, adultery, debtors, forgers, fraud and dice coggers (a false fawning person). Theft for stealing anything over 5 pence resulted in hanging." (http://elizabethanmuseum.weebly.com/crime-and-punishment.html)

However, this is different with Nobles since they are well-educated, wealthy, associated with Royalty and high members of the clergy (members of the church) but they still face punishments. If they committed High Treason, Blasphemy, Sedition, Spying, Rebellion, Murder, Witchcraft, and Alchemy they would face consequences. But before you would get tortured you must go through a trial however, "A Defendant's chances in receiving any acquittal in court are extremely slim. Trials were designed in the favour of the prosecutors and defendants accused any of the above crimes were not even allowed legal counsel.” (http://www.william-shakespeare.info/elizabethan-crime-punishment.htm)

A few torture devices that were used are the Iron Boot (which is a Spanish boot that has an iron casing for the leg and foot. Wood or iron wedges were hammered in between the casing and the victim's flesh.) , The Pillory (a device made of a wooden or metal framework erected on a post, with holes for securing the head and hands.), The Scavenger's Daughter ( It was an A-frame shaped metal rack; the head was strapped to the top point of the A, the hands at the midpoint, and the legs at the lower spread ends. The frame could fold, swinging the head down and forcing the knees up into a sitting position, compressing the body so as to force the blood from the nose and ears.),The Iron Maiden (a coffin that has full of spikes where the victim goes inside and get poked to death) ,The Gossip's Bridle(or otherwise known as Brank it was a device that has an iron muzzle in an iron framework that enclosed the head.) ,The Rack ( a device that pulls the victim's arms and legs apart.),The Bastinado (was more of a foot whipping than an actual death device since its suppose to inflict pain not kill the person.) and The Jougs (an iron collar which is fasten around a person which is used for humiliation.) All these torture devices varies between executioner's mood or what the higher ups would like to use them on. Sometimes ”Executioners showed mercy to their victims by placing gunpowder at the base of the stake which helped the victims to a swifter, and less painful, death.” (http://www.william-shakespeare.info/elizabethan-crime-punishment.htm).

Sources:
Elizabethan Crime and Punishments
http://www.william-shakespeare.info/elizabethan-crime-punishment.htm.
