I wouldn’t want 5 Apps for University when the simple solution is to integrate things not build separate systems. That’s what Technology is about right? Making people’s lives easier rather than more time consuming.

Also there’s a vast amount of data missing from Blackboard, maybe if this was fixed there would be more information available. I can’t see the use of another app, if the original ones aren’t working properly...

Information on rooms

For computer science there are many rooms that have computers in them that are used for specific things i.e. software programming, 3D modelling, security. What could be easy is that if there is a list of categories available which students can click on and see which rooms can be used. For example, one of the categories can be security and forensics - once clicked on, all the rooms which have security and forensics computers are displayed. The reason I’m pointing this out is because certain programming rooms are on different levels. Although rooms that are used for the same purpose are right next to each other, there are rooms on other levels as well which can be used for the same purpose and it really helps to know which rooms they are. I hope that’s not too confusing.

How students can work out marks and the importance of getting good marks

I know it is easy to work out marks for modules but many students still find it hard so maybe have information on how marks can be calculated. Also why it is important to aim for high marks. Moreover, first year students don’t normally know what viva’s are and how they work so maybe a bit of information on that would be good. There are some teachers who during viva’s just test the application and don’t ask for explanation of code but most do, so by knowing they’ll have to explain the code may have them prepared for the viva. It’s not the most ideal thing to add to a mobile app, but every little information helps.

Students sometimes are not aware of all the activities run by the University. Most of the miss out the most interesting conferences or workshop. To tackle this issue, the university should advertise around the different campuses the list of activities available. In addition, it would be very useful if every month they printed a newspaper with all the activities planned for the month so that students could keep track of them and write them down. Having an online website where those conferences are advertised is not enough. There is the need to make the students more involved in the activities by again printing a list of all the activities arranged for the month.
