Baptism

Baptism began with John the Baptist. Baptism for Christians usually occurs a few days after birth, but adults and children can be baptized as well. Baptism is when a person is dunked in the water and "cleansed" because we use water to wash ourselves. It is also thought that godparents are supposed to be responsible for a child's religious actions if the parents cannot. And finally, there is something that is called "christening" which is when a child is given a name after baptism.

When Christians get married, they promise to sty together for life. the couple agree to mirror the union of Christ and his church. This is the "Holy Matrimony". Each wedding is different, but all of them have the same basic things like: the parents of the bride walk her down the aisle and entrust her to the groom. A party usually follows the wedding.

Death

Christians believe that, since Jesus was resurrected, death can be a passageway to life eternal, and that, when they die, they go to either Heaven, purgatory, or hell. Good people go to heaven, and bad people go to hell. When someone is on their death bed, either they or the pastor/minister will ask for forgiveness of the person's sins so they may go to Heaven. This is called "Anointing of the sick". In some countries, mourners go through a "wake", or period of time when mourners mourn and pray over the loss of a family member or loved one.
