One new point that I did not thought about is that training is one of the means used to reduce the incidence of random error in the survey research process. As stated by the text that it reinforces standards of conduct, judgment and process that is required to promote consistency and assure greater levels of reliability. This is very important to the survey conducted.

Another point that is very important is the relationship between reliability and validity. Even i though many measures meet the requirement for reliability they may not be valid if they do not adequately tap the underlying dimensions of the concepts of interest.

I am now looking forward to learn some more concepts for my survey question.

This was a rough week for me ,anyhow i submitted the my draft, questionnaire and now last but not least,my reflection.
Firstly, the relevance of the research question.. Items in the questionnaire should not be difficult to respond to, time-consuming, embarrassing or personally threatening to the respondent, are themselves threats to the reliability and validity of the outcome of the study. This very important especially when dealing with sensitive questions such as sex, crime for example.

Using a check list is a good method of evaluating your questions to ensure that it is beneficial to the research in question.

This is one of the most challenging week for me, however i will reflect on what i have learnt.
A sample is a finite subset of the population that is chosen by a systematic process, to find out the characteristics of the parent set. Most social researchers realize that obtaining information from every person in a population is next to impossible. So instead of trying to collect everyone's information, they collect a sample of the population .
On the other hand, population is the entire group. When you are attempting to study a population, you have to collect information from everyone in that group

I realized how these factor can affect the outcome if the correct method is not used and the negative outcome that may arise.
I have learnt that the cluster actually means the the sampling of an area, for example a school population as to the entire population of the island.
I have given me a new view on this entire topic and it will enhance my scope in regards to my research my that will be due in a few weeks time.

The Debate week

I must admit that doing the debate has highlighted numerous benefits that a censes can provide over a sampling method and one need to bear these in mind as it help our country in many stages of planning for our economy. Population census helps the Government to know the number of people living in the country and the structure of the population. I did not know that it helps in the determination of taxable adults so as to know the amount of revenue expected from that sector. It enables the country to forecast future her future economic needs e.g. housing, food etc. Moreover, Population Census provides Government with statistics to determine the level of unemployment in the country. The number of immigrants can be known through the statistics gotten from population census. It can assist the government in the distribution of resources e.g. areas of high population like Lagos and Kano will get more resources than areas of low population. It gives the Government an idea of the different population in various parts of the country and this will help it in the provision of social amenities like housing, water, electricity, roads, schools, and hospitals e.t.c. Population Census helps the Government to know areas in the country where population per land area is low. It helps to reveal the total number of people who are working. When the level of manpower is high, the economic development of the country is assured. It assists the international agencies and Governments in giving aids and other assistance to countries. Population Census can influence a country’s investment decision making process.

I am presently working with the tax department of Jamaica and this information will be useful in making decisions about taxpayers of my country.

I have realized the some of my errors that were made while conducting my data collection for my research paper. Before we proceed with data collection, it is important to determine who will be responsible for different tasks and by when these tasks should be completed. Devising a work plan with deadlines for all key aspects of the evaluation keeps the process manageable and identifies expectations for staff and evaluation team members. Developing a work plan will also help you determine if what you envision for the evaluation is feasible given your resources.

The procedure used to collect data will vary depending on your design, instruments and sampling of participants. Regardless of the approach there are precautions you can take to ensure a smooth data collection process.

I have listed three areas that are very important to data collection:

1. Pilot-testing instruments to ensure that directions are clear and that measures are appropriate for the target audience

2. Rehearsing the process of administering the evaluation instrument or approach as appropriate or feasible

3. Scoping out in advance the location where data collection will take place,

Checking that you have the necessary supplies such as the right number of printed instruments and consent forms (plus a few extras), pens or pencils, stamped return-addressed envelopes, or other means for collecting completed questionnaires, etc

This list will assist me in the future in the area of data collection.

Unit 7 reflections

I have overlooked some important points in unit 8 8. This was in regards to editing as some respondents may make errors such as grammatical errors. Nowadays more and more data is collected for academic, scientific research, private and personal use, institutional use, commercial use. This collected data needs to be stored, sorted, filtered, analyzed and presented for it to be of any use. This process can be simple or complex depending on the scale at which data collection is done and the complexity of the results which are required to be obtained. The time consumed in obtaining the desired result depends on the operations which need to be performed on the collected data and on the nature of output file required to be obtained
