There aren't enough records for us to know for sure where Gutenberg got the idea for his printing press, but movable type was probably introduced to Europe from East Asia by invading Mongols.  Choe Yun-ui of Korea was the first to use movable type in a similar way as Gutenberg, but for various reasons it didn't take off in popularity the way that it did in Europe 150 years later. 

While exiled from Germany and living in Strasbourg, Gutenberg began experimenting with moving type and creating his press.  The Gutenberg Bible, the first book in Europe printed with movable type, will become a symbol of this massive cultural change of the 15th century."]]> 2021-09-08 11:59:03 UTC https://padlet.com/jenniferearnest1/cs45kaibn924ehxn/wish/1724618762
