£32,162 is the average salary, which is 13% below the national average. This would be bad because it's quite a low wage considering the type of job. Though, a good thing about it is there is less tax in which needs to be paid.

HOW TO WORK IN THE CSI

The entry route for this job is through the volume crime scene investigator program. They examine burglaries and vehicle crime. To carry out this role it takes a 5 week training course, which is after passing the monitoring and probation period. They work alongside the CSI colleagues. The recruitment period takes around 1-3 months. To enter you need qualifications such as maths and english, a grade A-C. This is good because if the work is put in it's possible to achieve, meaning that there's more opportunity for people to make it their career. Though, this is bad because you may not gain enough training.

There are approximately 13,000 CSI's in the UK. This is good because they are accessible and there are a lot of them. This can also be bad because there are way too many which could be overcrowding.

ONE MAJOR WEAKNESS

One major weakness of the CSI is that there is the possibility of the evidence being misleading and wrong, which can lead to wrongful convictions. An example of this is the David Butler case. The DNA analysis led to his wrongful conviction, though he was later acquitted. His DNA was found on the victims body, but it was found out that his DNA could've been transferred without intent to harm the investigation due to his rare skin condition and the victim wearing glittery nail polish. Another example is the O.J Simpson Trial. Some of his blood went missing, raising questions about the security of evidence and it potentially being tampered with. A matching bloody glove was discovered at the crime scene by a detective who entered without a warrant, furthering the concerns about the liability of evidence.

ONE POSITIVE

One positive of the CSI is that the evidence discovered is able to link current crimes to past crimes. An example of this is the Joseph James DeAngelo case. He was arrested and charged with 13 counts of murder in 2018. The evidence discovered was found to be connected to 13 murders, 51 sexual assaults and 120 burglaries. They used public genealogy databases to find him, finding his DNA on discarded napkins and razor blades. Another case in which can be an example of this is the Helene Pruszynski case. She went missing on the way to a bus stop. Though, due to the DNA new genetic material was discovered which led them to her killer.
