Kazimer Piechowski was one of 144 people to escape Auschwitz. Four days after Germany declared war, they invaded Kazimer's hometown, Tczew. He then tried to escape to the Hungarian border where he then was caught at the crossing and captured and went from prison to prison for 8 months. Shortly after, on June 20th, 1940 he was imprisoned at Auschwitz. He was then known as prisoner 918. Kazimer spent the next 2 years in Auschwitz before him and 4 others planned their escape.

Kazimer and the 4 others had to get through several of these gates to have a successful escape. Nazis would be guarding both sides of the gates at all times. In the Nazi uniforms, every time they would pass another gate they would salute to Hitler to try and fit in the best they could. If They look like a nazi they would have to act like them too. Each gate they passed they sweat more and more than the last. But came out successful escape.

this is one of the ways Nazis would get to point a to point b. Kazimer and the 4 others thought if they took the car the Nazis wouldn't find them as suspicious and wouldn't question it. So Kazimer found a way to get a hold of one of the cars and 4 other uniforms to be as disguised as possible. With the car they went from gate to gate sweating their nerves away. But the car helped so much with the success to the escape.

On June 20 1942 he and 4 friends went on with their escape plan. Kazimer and the 4 others had come up with this plan all together but didn't know if they really could pull it off. On June 20th they all decided they would go along with their plan, risking their lives to try to be one of the 144 people to ever escape Auschwitz. They found nazi uniforms like the ones shown here. They put them on to help with the escape as they would have to go past several gates where nazis would be guarding. Without the uniforms, they could have never pulled the escape off.

This is the border where Kazimer was captured. As Germany was invading his hometown, he tried to flee through this border. As he was about to flee he and several others were caught at the border, then held in several prisons for the course of 8 months.
