         <description><![CDATA[<p>Since isotopes of the same element have the same number of protons (which defines the element) but different numbers of neutrons,, their atomic masses are different. The difference in the number of neutrons changes the mass number (which is the total number of protons and neutrons), but the chemical properties remain nearly the same because those depend mainly on the number of electrons.</p>]]></description>
