Q. How did Clay feel in the moments he received the tapes and when he first heard them?
A. When Clay got a package without knowing the reason, he was confused because, he hadn't ordered anything, and it wasn't his birthday or a holiday. Once he opened the package I think the confusion almost doubled because, he didn't know anyone who would send him cassette tapes out of the blue. As he played the first tape and heard Hannah's voice the book says "My fingers, my hands, my arms, my neck, everything feels hollow." (Asher, 9), and later on the page he goes to say "Hitting Play that first time was easy. A piece of cake. I had no idea what I was about to hear.
But this time, it's one of the most frightening things I've ever done." (Asher, 9). These two quotes show exactly how much receiving and hearing the tapes affected Clay. He started to feel guilty, and kept asking himself if he did anything to deserve to be on the tapes.

Q. How did Clay feel throughout the story and why?
A. In the beginning of the book, Clay was a bit sceptical of the tapes, then realising who they came from, he begrudgingly decided to go along. He went on to feeling remorseful for Hannah. As Clay continued, he went to hate for the other people on the tape "You're an ---, Marcus. You stood her up when you never even had to ask her out to begin with." (Asher, 138), as well as annoyance or irritability, sadness while he was realizing and hearing what she had to go through. He began to feel more and more remorse when he was be mentioned, and remembered all those small things that he had and hadn't done. Fear, because of what would be put against him, and whether it was bad or not. He was frustrated with her, and with everyone else on the tapes, for doing what they did. Knowing that he'd never be able to walk the halls and see these people without seeing what they'd done to her. In the end, he'd accepted it. At the end of the book I think he made a subconscious promise to help those around him, and keep them from hurting themselves anymore than any average human already does.

Q. What were some key aspects of Hannah Baker's personality?
A. Hannah was strong, she stayed the way she was, somehow convincing others she was as OK as every one else. She kept to herself, letting her feelings dwell and darken, but at least she kept it quiet. She was strong because she stuck with the living, living her life, no matter how miserable, she was strong because she suffered to no expense or gain of anyone else. Then again, other people may take that as weakness, not standing up for her fears, her pain, her torture. She didn't share it. Hannah was smart, clever, far from ignorant. She noticed things about other people, watching things unfold, watching people change. She noticed people, she saw through their masquerade masks, through their lies and stories, I personally relate to that. Noticing others makes you reflect back on yourself, noticing the judgement you put on others, the judgement you put on yourself. Hannah was understanding because she could remember the pain she went through and put it to use when she looked at others. Quietly thinking to herself. Hannah was honest. She didn't try to lie when it came to the walkman, it was her clarity, her last honest talk with a brick wall. She spilled her soul out. She was bold, bold to share herself, her story, she was bold because she did what she wanted in the end. She took the step that changed the lives of many others. She was hurt, broken, bruised, burned, tormented, tortured.... She was like any human, just more, sooner, in a smaller amount of time... Too much. She had too many things to take in, too many memories to keep, too little time to take it, too many feelings, confliction, thoughts. She was afraid, afraid of people, afraid of judgement, afraid of what the future had for her, whatever she would've had, afraid of the pain she could've gone through. She felt too much.
So she took too much.

Q. Why did Clay feel somewhat obligated to go to the starred places on the map?
A. I think that Clay felt it was necessary to go to the starred spots on the map because part of him wanted to fully understand what was going on and try to picture what was happening and what Hannah went through, and another part of him thought that maybe doing that would be what Hannah wanted and, because Clay still has some feelings for Hannah he was willing to fulfill her wish.
