Thyateira is an ancient city in Manisa, which was founded in the location where Akhisar town center is located today. Traces of the first settlements in the area go back to to the year 3000 BC.

Thyateira shared a similar destiny with other ancient cities which have gotten beneath the modern settlements. Archaeological ruins in Akhisar are almost entirely under the modern settlement. The area where the ancient city was settled is the center of today's modern Akhisar district. Archaeological remains are encountered during any foundation excavation performed in this area.

One of the first seven churches of Christianity is also thought to be built in Thyateira. However, the church here should be considered as a community rather than a specific building. In this sense, it can be considered as an important center for the history of Early Christianity.

The basilica and the columned road, which have been discovered during excavations carried out in Tepe cemetary in Akhisar city center and which are thought to be antique monumental structures; “Hospital Mound” in the Kethüda Neigborhood, the altar structure on the summit of the mound, and coins dating back to the 2nd and 4th centuries AC, sarcophagis and inscriptions have been found in the region.
