The group doesn’t want bring Salva along because he was young and he can’t help the men out. Another reason why they don’t want Salva along is because they don’t have enough food to feed everybody. We feel that they won’t find their families, and this thought is very depressing. We also feel angry that some people aren’t very nice and unwilling to bring the POOR little child with them. 

The group doesn’t want Salva to come with them because he was to old to just be carried in arms and to young to be any help to women or elders. So they believed he would just be a hassle and would take up too much time. Also they feel he may take from there food/water because he may need more. I feel like it is disgusting a group of people think it’s okay to make a young boy fend for himself, he’s already upset because he can’t find his family so leaving him alone would just upset him more and leave him feeling helpless. If I was in his position I would want to give up because I would feel no need to continue my journey.

I feel very sad for Salva because, he probably thinks that he isn't mature or responsible enough to join in with their group. I also feel bad because they all left him alone at the barn, with no warning at all.

Kemelia : I think that it's not fair for the group to not want Salva to go with them because he's young and they think he's going to be trouble and complain about everything and say that he's hungry and not satisfied!

The group doesn't want Salva along because he is a small child. He will cry and ask for food and irritate the group, and will be just another burden in an already difficult situation. I understand how the group feels though. When you are on the verge of death, taking care of another child, especially one that isn't yours, seems like a waste of time.

4. At the lake camp they had clean water and had food for nya to eat and at home nya has to water every day to get food and water.

And if Nya didnt have water she would get dehydrated she could not wash herself,cook,and many other things.

Isobel : I also think that Salva is doing a good job surviving because he is very young but he has got food for the group and he is being very responsible about this whole situation with the war and all.

Three survival strategies that I have learned while reading this book are, when a lake doesn't contain water anymore but wet clay, dig a deep hole and wait until water starts coming into the hole and filling it up. Another useful strategy that I have learned is while in a wood land, listen for a bird named the honey guild to find a bee hive, also, once you have seen the hive, light a fire to make the bees sleepy so they won't sting you. The last strategy I have learned is that when your hunting, always have a good weapon, craft one if you are able to find resources to kill animals to eat. During this trip, I don't think that Salva has learned much about these survival tricks because he really doesn't do much other than describe what other people are doing, he didn't help get honey, he wasn't the one who found the hive, didn't find water and it was his uncle that shot the antelope, Salva might be learning but he docent really do anything to help.

 

Nya spends her whole day fetching water and bringing it back to her family. My mom dictates my life because I love her.

Three challenges to survival are finding enough food to eat, water to drink and a place for shelter. Salva is doing his best to survive and he’s persevering through this difficult time. 

Nya’s life at the camp is easier because she doesn’t have to spend her day fetching water. 

I feel bad that savla’s being isolated because  they want to isolate him only because he’s another mouth to feed and he’s young and they think he will slow them down

    Something that dictates her life is that she has to walk so far to get water . Something that dictates my life is that we don’t have to walk that far to get water because we get it from the tap.

    Salva’s is doing a good job of learning survival but i think he could be trying harder to understand . Three challenges  I’ve learned about the story is Water,Food, and the Lions .

Compare Nya’s life at the lake camp with her life at home (consider the availability of water, shelter, and safety). 

Nya at camp doesn’t have to go get water that’s 4 km away . When Nyas at home she has to walk far to get water.  At camp Nya doesn’t have to harvest food she just gets it . When Nya’s at home she was to harvest food to eat.

Zoey-Water dictates Nyas life because she will die if she dosent have water and she has to walk alot everyday to get it. Something that dictates my life is the sun because if the sun was not here than we wouldnt be here because it would be too cold for us to live here.

Ashreqt adrianna Zoey-One thing that i have learnerd that Salva wanted to come with the group but he got rejected and they left him behind. I think Salva was a little scared when the whole group left while he was asleep. I think Salva is doing ok right now because he is not dead or ingured really badly.  

Adrianna one thing i learned is always sleep in the middle of the group so you dont end up a meal for a animal like a lion i think salvas doing a good job because he slept by a adult with a gun

Everybody nyas life is better at her house than at lake camp because she doesnt have to dig in the mud all day at her house

Nya needs water and it’s hard to get her water she can only get dirty water .In Canada we electricty ,shelter, food , and clean fresh water from the great lakes  

One thing I new was to stay confident the whole trip. The second thing i new was to try your best to keep up.The third thing i new was never ever give up and keep going.I think salva is doing a good job surviving because  he was not complaining about food and water  and he didn't say where they're going.

Nya’s life was really hard and her house was a camp and she did’nt had electricity no water she had walk 4 miles to get dirty water and her trip in the camp was hard there was no water no food and no shelter,                    

Nya's life revolves around getting water. She spends upwards of 8 hours a day fetching murky water. She puts in all this effort and doesn't even get a great reward. Additionally, Nya is forced to move part way through the year to an unsafe location in order to survive (get more water).

In terms of our entire class, School dictates our life. We all attend on a daily basis for 6.5 hours a day. We have tasks to complete. It is, however, a privilege and not for our survival. 

   Water dictates Nya's life because she makes two long trips to the pond every day to support her family's needs. One thing that dictates my life is soccer.

       One thing I learned is that, Salva  is seeking refuge with many different people.
             The second is that the war has made almost everyone in Sudan split into groups of people walking on and on. 
  The third was his grandpa had a gun, that way they could eat bigger foods.

The group is willing to isolate and reject him because they believe that he is a child and will complain and lag behind. I feel like Salva should not be judged because he is a child. He is strong and he is not lagging behind from what I read he even helped to find food.

The group does not want Salva because he would just be an extra person and since he is a kid, they will underestimate his abilities and will think that he will not be able to do any work.

They didnt want to take him along because that is another mouth to feed and quench it’s thirst.

I think they should have took him with them because they still have at least a little bit of supplies to spare.

I think he’s doing an OK job at this because he can sustain through all of those pangs of hunger, and even found a beehive filled with honey (with the help of his friend, of course).

He’s doing a good job and I think he will continue to do so because he’s the main protagonist and I have a feeling that he will make it to the end of the book, despite the dangers.

3: Avoiding Injuries

He’s doing a good job at this too because even though he got thorn bruises and stubbed his toe on a rock, he pushes on through it and continues like nothing happened.

 His life is kinda like ours because he has friends and stuff. But it is very different at the same time like he does not go to school for as long as i do. He also has to hunt every day ya we hunt at the grocery store but that food can`t run. His house is not as big as mine and he also doesn't speak the same language as me. We live in a different place. But we are the same age.

Water dictates Nya’s life because in the book A Long Walk To Water in Chapter four it says, “ This was Nyas’s daily routine seven months of the year. Daily. Every single day.” So that is pretty much what Nya does for a living.

One thing that most dictates my life would have to school. School is a big part of my life and helps me learn new things and have a good career.

 Well I think that she will eventually get really bored of doing the same thing over and over again.  It is not safe either because of the fighting between the tribes and also the war with the government and the rebels. At the camp she does not have a really good shelter. she has has to dig for water

    The reason why the group doesn’t want Salva to go with them is because they think since Salva is a kid,that he is gonna be annoying\a distraction and always ask for food, say he's hungry all the time,and lead them behind.I feel like it's unfair that the group has to assume how Salva might act,because they don't know so they should give him a chance first and shouldn't say that until they know it's 100% true that Salva is a distraction.

On page 15 “He was a child who might tire easily and slow them down, complain about being hungry, and cause trouble somehow.”I feel like it is very wrong for them to leave a child because they don’t know what can happen to him and they did that just to save time.

Nya has had to face difficult daily challenges by having to travel several miles away from home so she can provide her family with fresh water to drink. Which isn’t always guaranteed to be clean. That could cause her trouble since she takes many trips a day which makes her exhausted and she won't have very much energy for more trips. One thing that most dictates my life is school work because i think it's a very important thing so i have good grades and i go to college and learn.
