Sound/music Experience

The sound/music learning experience I facilated for the children with my Three year old kindergarten class was dancing with coloured Scarfs to the following song:

Jiggle your scarf.

This song enabled children to listen to the words of the song through their senses of hearing and engage with the beat of the song to then create the movements with the coloured scarfs.

In particular the movement of the trees and leaves within the environment as this is what I experienced and connected with on my country visit.

This learning experience was facilated within the outdoor environment on a windy and cloudy day similar to the weather of my on country visit.

The reasoning for this was for children to explore the outdoor environment and connect with the nature whilst engaging in meaningful learning.

Whilst I engaged the children in the learning experience I explained to the children and drew their attention to the outdoor surroundings which where visible such the trees and asked the children if they could move their scarfs in an similar way.

Reflection-

The learning experience I engaged the children with children went well as the children enjoyed engaging in music and movement. The children liked that they could hold the scarfs and create movements with the wind.

In the future I would like to find more nature related songs and natural resources to add to the movement and music experiences.

As the children hadn't engaged in a similar experience outdoor prior to this I found that the where more engaged and settled then the indoor environment.

In the future I will be doing more group time learning experiences within the outdoor environment.

Planning this learning experience:

Resouces required-

Coloured scarfs as I have pictured above.

Outdoor learning environment- windy/cloudy day.

Song- Jiggle your scarf song ( Kindy Rock)

Encourage the children to sing some words once familar with the song.

Children to stand whilst immersed in the experience.

The movement learning experience I faciliated for the children was a nature walk to engage the children's senses.

Within the kindergarten environment I work within their is a large outdoor space which has lots of large trees, bamboo trees and grass. Lots of natural elements.

Similar to what I experienced on my on country visit.

Planning the experience:

Whilst on the nature walk around the kindergarten environment I sang a song to the children of 'Let's see what we can notice'- dance like bird, wishy washy dance like the tree, crunchy wet grass.

I encouraged the children to freeze observe their sourroundings and create the movements.

This learning experience enabled children to engage and understand the world around them, be respectful young citizens, connect with nature and do it in a fun filled way through a teacher led song experience which also involves the children by their own creative movement as well their movements through space.

Reflection:

The children did enjoy the learning experience however as it was a new song it took the children some time to familarise with the learning experience.

In the future I would like to explain to the children the purpose of the learning experience more clearly so that they are able to connect and have increased engagement.

I did engage the children twice and the second time I found the children where more engaged!

To extend this experience children could engage in sensory story telling movement experiences like 'lets go a bear hunt'.

Theortical Underpinnings

I have been inspired by the overall unit content as it has enabled me to draw on connection between my assesment task 2 on country visit and creative response to create meaningful learning experience for children. This is highlighted in below understanding of therortical underpinnings.

As explored in Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority (n.d.). Learning in Music. Australian Curriculum.

Music enables children to develop and be exposed to many learning elements.

Within my sound/muisc experience and movement/dance experience I have included many of these learning elements such as active listening, imitating, singing, presening and performing.

Therefore this highlights that the learning experiences I have facilated add value to children's learning.

I have engaged the children in the sound/msyic experiences and movement/dance experiences with the natural environment I was inspired to do this through my connection with on country visit and then bein able to connect with my own childhood.

Addirri, inner deep listening & Quiet still awareness- Mirriam Rose Ungunmerr also explores how important it to connect with natural elements as they help us to feel, think and believe and connect with past and present.

Through facilating thr learning experiences within the outdoor environment I have ensured that I have fostered this in the children learning.

As explored in the Nature Play- Ruth Wilson.

It is important for children to have opportunties to interact with the natural environment regularly.

I have ensured that the learning experiences I have facilated ensure this. Which has enabled contribution to children's overall learning. It has also enabled a direct link with my on country visit and creative response of assessment task 2 which was a magical experience into the country side.
