Maine exploded, killing 268 men. But instead of simply being self-error, perhaps it was sunk by an enemy?  Perhaps it was the work of the energy, and that statement riled up Americans like nothing else. That violently fueled their nationalism, and quickly put their blame on Spain, even though the mine they found wasn’t formally planed on the Spanish. While no one has directly confirmed what caused the U.S.S.
