         <description><![CDATA[<div>- took place in Charleston, South Carolina<br>- the leader of a slave insurrection that never took place, planned&nbsp; for Bastille Day.<br>- 131 men were arrested and 35 were hanged, including Vesey himself.<br>- This case was huge for the north, because it showed people that slaves could be arrested and hung for things for simply being suspected of revolution, and it increased tensions between northern and southern beliefs.</div>]]></description>

         <title>December 10, 1832: Nullification Crisis  </title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>- took place in South Carolina<br>- a dispute between South Carolina and the federal government, South Carolina believed that the federal government did not have the right to enforce tariffs.<br>- the south apposed tariffs from the get-go, and when their congress advocate and former vice president John Calhoun signed a compromise that most northerners agreed with, it was not enough for the state of South Carolina, who would later sign the Ordinance of Nullification, deny tariffs outright.<br>- the Ordinance failed due to the Force Bill in 1833, doubtlessly contributing to southern tensions with the union.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>- took place in Southampton County, Virginia<br>- A rebellion led by Nat Turner that lead to the death of 65 people, 51 or more of whom were white.<br>- this sort of blew up, until this point the American public still believed that slaves were happy and well taken care of, this revolt made the horror of day to day life as a slave something that nobody could ignore.<br>- the widespread coverage of this rebellion led to the northern public discovering how bad the conditions of slave life actually were, and fear among southerners of when the next rebellion might happen.</div>]]></description>

The Mexican American War for the US was Manifest Destiny, an effort to expand, and for Mexico it was defending their land from invaders.<br>- the addition of this new land would lead to even more debate about slavery, furthering tensions within the union.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>- John Brown was a certifiably crazy person, if crazy was a transmittable disease then this guy would need to life in isolation.<br>- He believed that God had called him to kill every slave holder in the south and effectively burn down the southern agricultural economy<br>- when his plan inevitably failed and the government had him hanged, he became the immortal spark that the Abolitionist movement needed, all the chips had fallen into place, now all we need is a leader.</div>]]></description>
