Creating an art space for disabled people is important. Different art forms allow these individuals to gain independence and freedom. Your empathize section is strong. Observing is important but I think interviewing them is a great idea. Knowing what their interests are will allow you to know what services they’d like. Learning about their struggles will help others focus on how to remove these obstacles. Many great ideas were listed to make art more accessible, such as performance workshops and accessible art exhibitions. The strengths are the ideas themselves, the weaknesses are the execution of the ideas. Would these performance workshops be held virtually and world wide? Would accessible workshops include transportation? The test is also great. I think surveys are a great way to receive feedback and to improve.

Your definition of the problem is great. After reading your first sections we know right away that the problem is lack of accessible transportation and the complexity of navigation. Throughout the years accessibility has gotten better. There are wheelchair friendly buses and vans as well as ramps for those who have physical disabilities. I think it’s great that you brought up the different types of disabilities. Those with intellectual disabilities need accommodations as well as they might not be able to drive. As you stated Ubers and taxis may not allow these individuals to use their services. Some disabled individuals may have behavioral issues which means they might need someone to accompany them during the ride. There are multiple problems listed that work as evidence. This evidence shows how much accessible transportation for those with intellectual disabilities are needed. Your solutions to this issue were to train drivers on how to deal with behavioral issues and to carry sensory items to keep them occupied. I think the solutions are great. The only weakness would be knowing if this is just for school bus drivers and for underage individuals. The prototype is strong as well. Making an app that gives drivers information about the disabled individual would really come in handy and would help them prepare for any potential issues that may arise throughout the ride.

The problem was stated very clearly. There are parking spots made for the disabled but they aren’t made to accommodate different types of disabilities. As stated many of these parking spaces are next to elevated areas that don’t accommodate wheelchair users. Many potential solutions were listed such as creating larger parking spaces and creating wheelchairs that are made for cars. Your prototype is a wheelchair made of green material. I think the prototype should’ve connected more to the problem. It seemed the parking spaces were more of an issue than the wheel chair itself. Parking spaces should be made to accommodate different types of disabilities and elevated areas near these parking spaces should be removed. The affordability aspect of the testing phase is important and I think it’s great you guys brought it up. I think accessibility also means affordability.

Many focus on the physical barriers those with disabilities face but focusing on social barriers are important too. They may have difficulty fitting in, and transitioning into adulthood. Many also face discrimination. You came up with a few ideas on how to overcome some of the social barriers they face. One of your ideas was to make sure cities establish better laws in order to improve their quality of life and to teach them important life skills. A weakness would be implementing these ideas. How can we as a community persuade political officials to enact these laws? Looking for foundations that already exist and helping them spread more awareness might help with this issue. Programs that teach the disabled important life skills already exist but they need more funding. The main problem would be lack of funding and awareness.

Your ideation section was very informative. Making health facilities accessible and making sure health professionals are treating those with disabilities with dignity is key. Collecting health data is something I didn’t think of. The data can provide proof of the socioeconomic status of those with disabilities. Many aren't able to work but still have to pay for health care. Data will allow professionals and organizations to raise awareness about disabilities. Informing the community about the costs of health care will allow them to put more pressure onto political figures. Universal health care is important; those with disabilities already face other obstacles and financial hardship shouldn’t be one of them. Promoting universal healthcare is an important factor. The only weakness would be on how to promote universal health care how can we reach political figures and make sure voices are being heard.

Many of the problems revolve around lack of funding. Foundations that focus on helping the disabled need more attention. Promoting their foundations may be of help.
Offering more classes about disabilities to educate individuals is important too. Once more people know about disabilities more will be inclined to spread awareness.
More thought needs to be put into the execution of ideas. How will we get money for our inventions, how will we truly make things more accessible for all?
