The impact of human activities (6) seems to me to be the best theme to alert to this problem of climate change, because it gives students immediate awareness of the consequences of our actions in the environment, but it also teaches the processes that influence the climate. They are usually dramatic examples that always manage to captivate some students to the theme, when in the 8th year of addressing (13/14 years) this subject in the Portuguese science curriculum.

I would explain the difference between time and climate through daily observation and recording of time, comparing it with the climatic characteristics typical of the various seasons.
I teach in second grade and I believe that this type of topic requires not only to be treated not only transversely, in the various disciplines, but as environmental education.

I chose Climate Literacy Principle 7: "Climate change has consequences for the Earth system and human lives". Being a teacher of English as a second language at secondary level (10th and 11th year students), this topic relates to the subject I teach. One of the units within the English syllabus is "The Environment", usually referred as "Our World" or "The World around us". It covers aspects related to the major environmental problems, overpopulation and sustainability, and how to take action towards a greener planet.
This is part of the 11th grade topics, which, in my opinion, is appropriate, since students are more mature to understand and address these issues , even when most of the biggest environmental problems (caused by humans) don't still affect them (in the Azores archipelago) or their families in their daily lives directly. But we could explore the consequences of natural disasters such as earthquakes and volcano eruptions. So, I would probably introduce it at the end of the 11th year. Then we could relate it to other topics such as "The world of Work" or "The Consumer Society". It could also be part of a project integrating the subjects of Biology, Physics, Geography and Economics, for instance.

In the suggested activities sections, there were some very visual teaching materials, like the World Change animations and NASA images, perfect for demonstrating to students how humans and our actions change this planet, with a before and after look. I would use this as a cross-curricular activity in my English class, maybe showing my 6th graders two images of the same place and they tell me which is "before" and "after", and what happened inbetween.

Being an EFL teacher and according to our curricula, I would address topics 6 and 7 to challenge students for vocab practice, role-plays, debates, social activism. I have chosen this topic both because of its intrinsic interest and also because it would be useful to introduce these ideas in a foreign language class debate to update and complement what the students learn about a foreign language and civilization.

Practically all English Language textbooks (same in other foreign languages) include one or more units on nature and geography, travelling and tourism. These topics are part of the syllabus. Creating some complementary activities on how climate change is affecting (or could affect) what is described in those lessons could increase the motivation and level of awareness of the students. It would also help them develop their linguistic and communicative competencies on these matters.

Intuitively, it seems easy to design vocabulary activities integrating specific terms and expressions. For example: what is the meaning of: 1) "coral bleaching", 2)"encroachment of coastlines", 3) "melting permafrosts"? These first activities could then lead to debates, information searches and class presentations on these topics, following either project-based learning or active learning approaches, for instance.

I would invite students to explore credible scientific information sources and deal with data that is available online, for instance.
They could also create lab activities to collect their own data or test their ideas, or use the collected data to understand the main problems that affect local ecosystems and the Earth, as the major ecosystem.
With real data, they have the choice to understand that problems are real, and need real, concrete, and rapid decisions in order to mitigate the current issues and/or decrease the rate at they are progressing.

I have chosen the topic 6 "Humans affect climate" on the grounds of its importance. It is obvious that humans have taken advantage of the environment to improve the economy and social comfort. Now, it has been proved the damage we have cost on it; such as deforestation, climate change, gas emissions, etc.

I teach in primary school year five. I would introduce the topic in English lesson or Citizenship, I find the topic particularly interdisciplinary and it offers cues for CLIL activities. I would develop the topic by asking students to make a diary of their daily activities. What activities they do in a common day of their life like taking a shower, consuming meals, playing videogames, going to school, practicing a sport. Then we will work out how much CO2 we produce by simply living our routine and consequently how CO2 affects the climate. To understand the problem from a global point of view I think it is important to understand how a single person is involved in the climate change process, with his simple everyday life. I would develop awareness of responsibilities by moving from the smallest to the biggest, from myself to the global.

I teach a fourth year primary school class. A topic we generally address in our geography curricula is the climate. To contribute to my pupils climate literacy I would probaby think about a multidiplinary activity involving geography and science to show the link between the greenhause gas concentration and the rising global temperatures. I was inspiered by the Carbon Cycle game. I would probably take inspiration from it by building a board game to follow the carbon cycle as if we were a carbon atom. It would be particularly interseting to see how it takes part in the Photosynthesis (other topic in our science curricula) and than focusing on how carbon dioxide emissions affect the rising temperatures if they are too many. In order to do this we could compare the carbon dioxide concentration and average global temperature of our city at the beginning of the century and today. This could lead to a discussion where students see the link between the two factors and identify industialisation and pollution as the changing element in this periodn of thime. It could be interesting to use a tool like The Very, Very Simple Climate Model to clarify the connection between the two factors and make previsions about the future. In the end I would ask my students to build a simple model (linked below a model built by my students to review greenhouse effect) to hang on our wall to remember our journey as carbon atoms and to underline how important they are in nature and how harmfull they become if too present in the atmosphere.

I have chosen the 6^th topic, as it tackles human actions that affect climate change and after all, I believe it is a topic which is close to praxis and thus, it is visible and understandable for the little ones, who I deal with in my classroom.

I am an English teacher and hence, it goes without saying that language learning would be targetted, apart from growing awareness on environmental issues. Moreover, it could be introduced at any stage of the curriculum but the sooner the better, as it is an urgent issue.

The question of how to carry this project out in the classroom will hopefully be answered throughout this course. I have a rough idea though: creating a decalogue on human actions that increase or decrease climate change, focusing on the triple R´s (reduce, reuse, recycle), a beach clean-up....

I´m a teacher of physical education, in secondary school,within the curriculum there are some contents related with enviroment: orienteering, trekking…also there are some objectives related with conservation, explore and care of the enviroment.

Its interesting who my students not only realice activitys in the enviroment but also reflect on the impact of these activities on the planet and how you can minimize them.

I choose the title number 5, "Understanding climate". We collect meteorological data with my students with the meteorology station that I have established in my school for the last 5 years. A visit to the beach and collecting debris will show the local problem. Using mixed resources - google maps, art books, videos, scientific data, and workshops. In art students can use collage and mixed media to make posters to highlight the problem. Since I am an educational researcher and not a school teacher, I can propose to try and integrate information about extinct species into different subjects. For example, biology and geography lessons could easily include the distribution of species according to the geographical location, their amount, appearance, behaviour, diet and information on how climate crisis endangers their extinction. Math lesson can explain this topic by actually counting how many species extinct in a decade time and how many could be saved if the human re-think and change their approach to the use of natural resources, production of goods, as well as processing of waste. Music lessons could well include the sounds of birds, other animals, recording the ones that are still alive and composing some musical piece as a group task. There are numerous ideas that can well accommodate the topic of human activities, the destructive impact of the anthropocentrism on the climatic conditions, which in the end causes deaths of multiple species.

After taking a peek of the 7 topics I've chosen number 3 because I am currently teaching 4ºESO (11th grade) and I think it could be used to make an interesting (and ambitious) project for 2/3 of the school year, touching topics like: origins of life and contitions that were needed, changes in Atmosphere, ecosystems, role of humans, carbon cycle, history of The Earth...

I know making this huge project would be really challenging so I guess for now I will have to make it smaller, but who knows? maybe in a couple of year it could be done.

In our curriculum, we have interdisciplinary subjects including Maths, Geography, literature, etc. In this respect, it is not difficult to combine the natural issues with teaching English. The reason why I chose this principle is to highlight the importance of individual's activities that damage the nature's balance, in other words, the earth has already gotten old and exhausted and it now takes her revenge. Iın my classes, I favor the students' self learning with the guidance of me. Therefore, it is purposeful to start with a striking video and scientific datas. Then, I want my students just to explain their emotions about what they have watched or listened. Touching heart is a good way to think in a brave way. And I put emphasis to make my students some kind of boss changing their around. (They feel themselves special). I can give tasks which include comparing their house's electricity or gas bills and taking actions to diminish them. They will understand how they save energy just a month of struggle and caution. So it is a good idea to "clean their small houses" first and then this will follow school, other environments, etc. Data driven explanations are necessary to get away from suspicions generally.

I chose topic #4 "Climate varies over space and time through both natural and man-made processes." Since I teach outside and have students only for one week this is more difficult although not impossible. One way I have been doing this is using old photographs to show how glaciers are shrinking. When we hike to a location and I show these old photos, it helps students understand that climate change is a long-term process whereas as weather is what helps them decide if they should wear the rain jacket today or not. Addressing concept 4: Climate is variable. I chose this because students often have misconceptions between natural and human-educed climate processes. Lower years also need to distinguish that short spells of warmer/cooler weather does not mean climate is changing, so learning about how climate is changing over the space and time. I think the best way students can learn is to look at the statistical evidence. I like the idea suggested using the data form the tree rings. Students use the statistics, present and draw own conclusions. This can then be cross- references with the climate graphs. It is a good use of investigation and secondary data.

I would focus on topic 7, which tackles the consequences of climate change. As an English teacher, this topic seemed slightly more versatile and down-to-earth than the others. When dealing with the topic of animals, we could very well discuss the consequences on the species around us. Then, with the weather, a study on the evolution of temperature over the last couple of years could be done, not to mention the fact that we could also learn about different natural disasters. Other than that, the school where I am currently working is by a group of factories. During this Covid crisis the positive effect of the lack of fumes (to some extent) could also be appreciated. I am a teacher of Physics and Chemistry in a high School, one of the contents covered is in the area of chemistry in the 10th year in which we talk about the concentration of ozone in the stratosphere and the main gaseous pollutants found in the atmosphere. These polluting gases from human activity and their consequences in changing the temperature of our planet and at the same time in reducing the ozone layer that protects us from ultraviolet radiation of greater energy.

These topics can be introduced through a small questionnaire in which students refer to what type of refrigerator they have at home, if they use aerosols, how much meat they consume, what type of transport they use, how often they buy clothes, how they treat waste at home and how they manage their ecological footprint. I'm a kindergarten teacher so I can teach all subjects, that's why I have selected the topic 1: The Sun is the primary source of energy for Earth's climate system.
I have choosen this topic because I have considered that I would start this project with something that is really specific: the sun. We would investigate more about it and we could do activities related to this.

I have chosen topic 6, Humans affect climate, because it is strongly connected to the current situation we are living, a health crisis, which will become a climate crisis in the near future if we don't stop affecting the climate so badly.
I would start by teaching the science, allowing students to reach their own conclusions working though data sets. I would try and use active techniques, for them not to turn off, like role-playing, gathering info from the outside, taking local examples, having careful discussions ...always trying to get to outcomes based on scientific evidence. And, of course, a final hands-on project that would show students the environmental impact of their own actions.
It relates to my subject, English, because this is one of the main topics we deal with during the year.
This is an an issue addressed in the 2nd and 4th level of ESO/ for 12/13 year old students or 14/15 year olds.

I've chosen topic #6 "Human activities are impacting the climate system". I've already touched this point although not in depth with pupils on their first year of secondary school here in Spain (aged 11-12). According to the Spanish syllabus for this school year we have to cover the issue of air pollution within the broader topic of "the atmosphere". In my experience, it can be difficult for students at this age to grasp some concepts that have to do with things they can't touch or see, such as air. So I usually resort to crafts such as drawing and colouring a diagram explaining where CO2 and methane come from and the consequences of their piling up in the atmosphere. And from there I move up to brainstorming ideas where our individual decisions can help reduce the emissions of these gasses. I also make them watch a short video explaining easily the man-made changes in our atmosphere and ask them some questions afterwards.

In the Philippines, we only have two seasons-- wet and dry. Learner's limited experience of the different seasons makes the instruction a little bit hard. In teaching Geography, the interrelations between systems are the most important. I consider the climate change obviously during the teaching of the unit "atmospheric processes", however it is also very clear that the topic needs to be addressed in other units (and other subjects) as well. The clou lies in the definition of the interaction betwen the climate system and human activities, as there is a complex conection between mitigation intentions on the one side, and other unforeseen consequences on the other side. Only by understanding that no activity is outside the system, the topic can be fully understood in its complexity. An example could be the impact of the burning of the amazon rainforest on atmospheric aerosol levels, the global co2 budget... or the understanding that the way we have built cities is privileging fossil-energy powered individual transport - and not climate-friendly alternatives.

The school teaches through cross-curriculum so I would include this in our 'The Truth is out there' topic . The topic looks at the solar system and sun and the moon. I think it would link really well. We could discuss the Sun as a source of heat and the heat staying within the atmosphere. I might look at doing an experiment with a spotlight shining on an object, taking the temperature prior to the light being put on the object and after and timing how long it takes to cool down.

I could start from short questions like what happened to the penguins, or the koala bear to reduce the number of species. They love animals and starting from the consequence, effect, we can reach the teaching of some concepts. Many children in my group believed that they were doing their part by putting trash into the trash bin-- but had no idea about where their trash goes!

I teach English to students aged 6-14. I would choose Climate change has consequences for the Earth system and human lives.
I believe raising awareness is vital and often times, students and adults don't see the connections between their actions and climate change and its effects simply because they reckon a small act cannot impact anything. But as the saying goes, let a drop of water fall on a rock every day and it will bear a hole in it. Become aware of how these consequences translate into something tangible, personal is the key. I would do that through creative writing, either in the form of a different kind of diary, after watching a session with experts presenting from the south Pole. I am trying to remember the site I use with my students sometimes, but it keeps slipping my mind. You can watch live as polar bears roam the expedition trailer. It isn't polaredu; anyway, I will remember. The idea is students can see the consequences on those starving bears for example and then we can extrapolate and they can figure out how climate change impacts human life. They can write a note to themselves from the future if climate change hasn't been taken seriously or write from the perspective of a human or ecosystem affected.

I chose this title as it can be taught by teaching young students. In Konya there is a place named "Catalhoyuk". That is the oldest settlement in this city.
