Chris' thorough education provided a strong background for his two year success in the wild. The reason that Chris died however, was from his ignorance to the scarcity of the materials in the wilderness. Despite being warned countless times by people like Westerberg, Franz, and others, Chris disregarded the advice to stay towards civilization, keep as much food as possible in possession, and to keep in contact with civilians to avoid being killed (pg 202). The stubborn nature of McCandless is, unfortunately, what killed the man, and despite his beliefs, he touched the lives of many.
