This happend because of an undeclared war known as the Quasi-War. Peace was restored with the Convention of 1800 also known as the Treaty of Mortefontaine.

Alien and Sedition acts- A law/act that made it harder for immigrants to become legal citizens with the right to vote. Sometimes it took from 5-14 years. These laws were made because congress thought that these laws were needed as protection against foreigners who might threaten the nation. 

Election of 1800- This election was between John Adams and  Thomas Jefferson and was won by John Adams

Madison- this happened because a petition to the Supreme Court by William Marbury, who had been appointed Justice of the Peace in the District of Columbia by President John Adams but whose commission was not subsequently delivered. 

Louisiana purchase- a purchase of the Louisiana territory made by the U.S from France. Thomas Jefferson sent Louis and Clark to check out the land before being bought. And instead of paying the original price, the U.S ended up paying 15 million dollars for the territory. 

Conflict with Britain and France- The Embargo Act of 1807 was a general embargo enacted by the United States Congress against Great Britain and France during the Napoleonic Wars.

Great Britain began stopping American sea vessels and forcing subjects on the vessels into the British military. This practice was called impressment.

How we got Florida- John Quincy Adams and Spanish minister Do Luis de Onis signed the Florida Purchase Treaty, in which Spain agreed to cede Florida to the United States. In exchange, the U.S. government assumed approximately $5 million of claims by U.S. citizens against Spain.

American system- a protective tariff, a national bank jointly owned by private stockholders and the federal government, and federal subsidies for transportation projects.

In all, Jackson replaced over 900 federal employees. The term "spoils system" is derived from the statement "to the victor belong the spoils," spoken by William Marcy.

Nullification crisis- The Nullification Crisis was a United States sectional political crisis in 1832–1837, during the presidency of Andrew Jackson, which involved a confrontation between South Carolina and the federal government.

Jackson battles the national bank- says that the government will no longer use the Second Bank of the United States, the country's national bank. He then used his executive power to remove all federal funds from the bank, in the final salvo of what is referred to as the Bank War.

Indian removal act- Jackson wanted the land that the Native Americans were on for plantations. So congress gave Jackson a rule for this (only if the Natives agreed to move out).
