Perhaps the NF anchor passage could be about toilets in Mohenjo Daro (in the Indus Valley, it's one of the world's oldest cities), and the knowledge building could be about the civilization, its social stratification, etc. (Toilets and where they are found give archaeologists clues about who's who, what they ate, what was important to them, etc.)

I think teens would find this interesting, especially if we spin the passion for purple as a popular craze that had a lasting impact. (Besides potentially linking it to the spread of the precursor to our own alphabet, people still associate purple with wealth and royalty because of the Phoenicians.)
